We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started a non-profit dance company in NYC at age 25 and then my fitness/wellness studio at 33 and I think both times it was the same…I had an idea and I thought, “I won’t ever know how this will go unless I try it”. I am more of an innovative thinker by nature, so starting things from scratch is really where things excite me.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Ground is a boutique fitness and wellness studio offering pilates, yoga, form-driven cardio/strength, meditation and specialty workshops of all kinds. We also house the Lab Pilates Comprehensive Certification Programs and consider ourselves and education-base studio, with different generations of soon-to-be Pilates instructors observing our practices while working their way up to ultimately be a staff member. What sets us apart? The form. We are a quality over quantity studio with the focus being longevity. Our goal is no more unnecessary surgeries, injuries, etc and rebalancing ourselves so that we can enjoy our lives! We don’t throw things around here or push ourselves through competition (unless it is with ourself!). We take our work extremely seriously, but ourselves…not so much! Laughter and smiles are a must at The Ground, a crucial component to our love for health and wellness. We recently just merged in our space with Jackie Sagum, a phenomenal acupuncturist with a thriving practice, so now we are the full-blown wellness center I have always dreamed of having, to give our clients a one stop shop of wellness…massage therapy coming soon as well!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Eat: Ambli Mexico (for fine dining), Santiago’s (for breakfast burritos), Banzai Sushi, Snooze (for brunch!) and Linger for lunch or dinner Hike: Mt. Falcon, Deer Creek Canyon Loop for beautiful and convenient! Bike in Waterton Canyon! A concert at Red Rocks (post-COVID, can’t wait for this again!) Hang out in Washington Park – rent paddle boats or paddle board! Denver Art Museum and Museum of Nature and Science

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Lawson harris, my certifying pilates instructor in Brooklyn, NY and my example for how to run a business. Now she is a wonderful friend!
