We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Weesner-Butcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
As many other business owners would say, I didn’t always see myself owning a business. However, in hindsight, it’s comical that I never envisioned myself as a business owner because I grew up seeing my dad own his business as a third-generation business owner.

Now, I didn’t end up continuing the family business. As an only child, my family’s auto repair shop ended with me this past summer when my dad retired. However, I am honored to carry on the family legacy of being a business owner through my digital marketing agency, Power Branding.

I grew up in a small town in rural Indiana. My high school didn’t offer a ton of elective classes, but it did offer a number of business classes. When I graduated high school, I had three years of accounting classes under my belt, so it made sense for me to major in accounting especially after securing a full-tuition scholarship within the College of Business. Four years later and I had earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and began a career in corporate America performing semi-interesting and semi-beneficial tasks day in and day out.

I quickly recognized a gut feeling that grew stronger and stronger as days went by. I remember leaving the office as an accounting manager and calling my dad in tears with no other explanation for my emotions other than “there has to be MORE.”

Over time I gained the courage to experiment with the thought of leaving a career I had worked so hard to have. I began taking actions that allowed me to try new opportunities as I navigated what my career could become.

For example, while laying on my physical therapist’s massage table one evening, she made the comment that she struggled with her social media content. *ta-da* I quickly said I would be open to running her Instagram account if she would be open to giving me a shot. Low and behold, that was the beginning of starting my own business. I quickly found something I ENJOYED that felt more VALUABLE than my accounting productivity. I continued to invest my time and energy into becoming more knowledgeable within the social media industry and found more opportunities to hone my skills.

My business, Power Branding was born.

8 years later, and I have combined my love for health and wellness with my creative skill set and business degree to build a full-time business with multiple team members. Although I didn’t realize when I was looking to make a career change that I wanted to own a business, I quickly found that it was the only path for me that allowed me to control the values of the individuals I would surround myself with, the endless opportunities I was looking to have, and the flexibility to create my constantly evolving dream-life day in and day out.

And I have never looked back since…

What should our readers know about your business?
In the digital marketing industry, I find what separates Power Branding from other agencies is our unwavering dedication to RETURN ON INVESTMENTS. The entire purpose of a business investing in their marketing is to generate growth, leads, and ultimately revenue. Unfortunately, the majority of agencies become consumed with providing content deliverables rather than focusing on getting the client ROI.

We founded Power Branding with a business and accounting backbone. Utilizing these skillsets to create data-driven marketing has led to sales results that speak for themselves for our clients.

Under the leadership of Jessica Weesner-Butcher, Power Branding’s clients know they will receive not only marketing strategies and deliverables, but straight forward insights and business consulting. We are not in the business of co-signing nonsense business ideas or strategies that will not move the needle forward for our clients. Rather, we’re a trusted resource for our clients to utilize for business decision making.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Although I’m not from Colorado, it’s one of my absolute favorite places to spend my time! Just last month my husband and I spent a week in Breckenridge. Truly a 10/10 place to be during the winter months. Even though it was already past Christmas, it was giving total Christmas vibes in a majestical way! Although we stayed at one of the ski-out resorts, I spent my time enjoying a book by a fire with a gorgeous mountain view, exploring the beautiful down-town, and indulging in some of the BEST restaurants each evening.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh wow, to say someone else deserves a shoutout is an understatement! There are SO many individuals and resources who have walked on this journey with me and helped me get to where I am today. It feels impossible to list just one and equally as impossible to list them all, so here are a few who I owe more to than I can put into words:

My husband, John: For believing in me always, laughing, crying, and celebrating all of the big AND little moments, and for loving me constantly.

My mom, dad, & granny: For being my biggest cheerleaders from day one and always believing in my wildest dreams

Nicole: For walking along side me as an entrepreneur yourself. For the trips, constant laughter, phone calls, tears, cheers, advice, best-friendship, and love.

Kari: For creating both a container of women AND for 1:1 support that has allowed me to stretch, grow, and expand in business AND in myself as a person.

The Networks Program at Indiana State University: For providing me with 4 years of leadership development, travel opportunities, and skills development that laid a foundation most entrepreneurs only dream of having.

My friends, clients, and network of entrepreneur-colleagues: For all of the support and belief in what I have created and continue to create.
