We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill Althoff and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jill, how do you think about risk?
Embracing Risk: A Calculated Approach Rooted in Faith, Strategy, and Passion
When I think about risk, I don’t see it as a reckless gamble—I see it as a necessary step toward growth, carefully calculated with strategy, preparation, and faith. I don’t just work hard; I work smart. Every major decision I’ve made in my career has been driven not just by personal ambition, but by a deep passion for helping others. When you think beyond yourself—when you ask, Who will suffer if I don’t step up?—it transforms risk from something scary into something essential.

Opening my first practice shortly after graduating was a massive leap. I had no business experience, no patient base, and had just moved to a new town and state. But I knew that people needed the care I could provide, and I was willing to figure it out. Years later, I took another bold step—purchasing a business property for our Windsor clinic. It was a huge expense and needed extensive work, but I saw the bigger picture: long-term stability and the ability to create a healing environment that truly reflected my vision.

Hiring an associate doctor was another moment of uncertainty. I had to ask myself: Do I know how to lead? Do I have enough patients? Will I hire the right person? But growth doesn’t happen in comfort zones. I leaned into learning, refining my leadership, and trusting my ability to adapt. Then, last year, I faced one of my biggest challenges yet—opening a second clinic in Cheyenne, WY. Some people questioned it. But I didn’t ask, What if I fail? I asked, What happens to the people suffering from peripheral neuropathy if I don’t open this clinic? Who will care for them if I don’t step up? That’s a risk I wasn’t willing to take.

In my personal life, I’ve taken just as many leaps of faith. Buying our first home on a tight budget, trusting God when we found out we were expecting our second child in 2009 during an economic downturn, moving to the country into a school district where we knew no one, and investing in rental properties—each of these moments carried uncertainty. But every time, I leaned on my faith, worked smart, and made decisions based on long-term impact, not short-term fear.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned about risk is that fear doesn’t mean stop. It means prepare, calculate, and trust. I don’t take blind risks—I take strategic risks. In business, I make decisions based on my vision, my mission, and my five core values. I also know my numbers. When you truly understand your financials, patient retention, marketing ROI, and operational efficiency, you eliminate guesswork.

That doesn’t mean others always understand my choices. My parents, my friends, and even my husband have questioned some of my biggest moves—not because they didn’t believe in me, but because they wanted to protect me from failure. But I don’t let fear drive my decisions. I rely on my faith. I make space to pray, and I make space to listen. And when I take a step forward, I know I’m doing it for something bigger than myself.

If risk relies on me, I’m confident. If risk relies on others, I’m more cautious. That’s why I’ve been intentional about building a team I can trust. When I hire, I don’t just look for skill—I look for alignment. I ensure that potential employees resonate with our culture and understand the deep purpose behind our work.

At the end of the day, risk is not about recklessness—it’s about courage with wisdom. It’s about seeing who will suffer if you don’t act and stepping forward with a strategy. That’s how I’ve built my career, my practice, and the life I love.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Althoff Wellness Clinic: God First, People Second, Impact Always
Althoff Wellness Clinic isn’t just another chiropractic office—we are a mission-driven wellness center dedicated to helping people overcome chronic spinal conditions, joint pain, knee pain, and peripheral neuropathy so they can regain their mobility, independence, and quality of life.

What sets us apart? We put God first, people second, and everything else follows. Our faith is woven into the fabric of our practice, guiding how we serve, lead, and make decisions. This isn’t just a job for us—it’s a calling to restore hope to people who have been told there’s no solution for their pain.

What We Treat
We specialize in non-invasive, cutting-edge treatments for:
✔ Chronic spinal conditions – helping patients avoid surgery and reduce pain naturally
✔ Joint pain and knee pain – restoring function so people can stay active without medications
✔ Peripheral neuropathy – my personal favorite, because it transforms lives in ways most doctors never thought possible

We don’t just offer temporary relief—we provide long-term solutions by combining advanced technology, at-home care, and education to empower patients to take control of their health.

What I’m Most Proud Of
❤️ The impact we’ve made. Watching patients go from constant pain to thriving again is what fuels me every day.
❤️ The culture we’ve built. We aren’t just a clinic—we’re a faith-driven team that genuinely cares about every person who walks through our doors.
❤️ Our growth. Expanding into Cheyenne, WY was a leap of faith, but I knew the patients there needed us. Who would help them if we didn’t step up?

How I Got Here—And Was It Easy?
Absolutely not. Building this business has been one of the hardest and most rewarding things I’ve ever done.

I started my practice right after graduating, in a new state, with no connections and no business experience. Like most chiropractors, I left school with a heart for helping people—but almost zero training in running a business.

Since then, I’ve faced challenge after challenge:
🚧 Buying our Windsor clinic property—a huge investment that required major renovations.
🚧 Hiring my first associate doctor—wondering, Do I have enough patients? Do I know how to lead?
🚧 Expanding into Cheyenne, WY—starting from scratch in a new market.

And honestly? In the early years, I struggled as a leader. I was reactive instead of proactive. I had no leadership training. But instead of letting my mistakes define me, I invested in mentorship, read every business book I could find, traveled to conferences, and learned through trial and error (and lots of hard knocks).

The Lessons I’ve Learned
✅ Smart work beats just working hard. You don’t have to hustle yourself into burnout. Success is about strategy, efficiency, and impact.
✅ Know your numbers. If you don’t understand your financials, marketing ROI, and patient retention, you’re just guessing. Data removes fear from risk.
✅ People matter more than anything. Relationships—with patients, employees, colleagues—are the most valuable asset you have.
✅ Faith and fear cannot coexist. Every major decision I’ve made—whether expanding, hiring, or investing—has required trusting God, praying, and listening.

My Passion Beyond My Clinic
In all my spare time (LOL), I also coach other doctors on how to run their businesses. I know firsthand how little business training we received in school, and I learned the hard way—by spending tons of money on coaching, traveling to conferences, reading books, and learning through trial and error.

Now, I help other entrepreneurs shine. I love helping doctors transform from overwhelmed business owners into confident, thriving leaders. I know what it’s like to feel lost, and I also know how much freedom comes when you finally figure out how to run your business instead of your business running you.

What I Want the World to Know
1️⃣ Chronic pain is NOT something you have to live with. Whether it’s neuropathy, knee pain, or spinal issues—there is hope, and we can help.
2️⃣ Success isn’t just about working harder—it’s about working smarter. Strategy, mentorship, and faith make all the difference.
3️⃣ Your calling is bigger than your fear. If you feel led to do something, trust that God will make a way.

This journey hasn’t been easy, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Because at the end of the day, we are changing lives, empowering others, and honoring God—and that is what truly matters.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Ultimate Week-Long Adventure in Northern Colorado
If my best friend were visiting for a week, I would make sure they got the full Colorado experience—a mix of outdoor adventure, country fun, great food, and unforgettable moments in nature. No matter the season, Northern Colorado has something for everyone!

Day 1: Settle In & Enjoy the Simple Life
After picking them up from the airport, we’d get them settled in and let them unwind after their travels.
If they’re up for it, we’d hop on the four-wheelers and ride around our property and nearby open land, exploring the beautiful countryside. There’s something so peaceful about cruising on dirt roads, taking in the fresh air, and enjoying wide-open spaces.

The evening would be all about relaxing and catching up over a home-cooked meal—featuring fresh bison from our freezer (courtesy of my son’s hunting skills). There’s no better way to kick off a Colorado trip than with good food, great company, and wide-open skies.

Day 2: Hiking & Boating at Horsetooth Reservoir
Start the morning early with a hike up Horsetooth Rock. Getting out before the sun gets too high ensures the best experience, cooler temps, and breathtaking views at the top.

After the hike, we’d head straight to Horsetooth Reservoir for a relaxing day of boating and paddleboarding. There’s nothing better than cooling off in the water after a solid morning on the trails.

End the day with dinner at Jax Fish House—because great seafood in a landlocked state is a rarity, and Jax does it right.

Day 3: Shooting & Country Swing Dancing
Spend the morning target shooting at our home. There’s nothing like getting outside, honing your aim, and enjoying some fresh air with good company.

After cleaning up, we’d grab dinner at McCarty’s in Eaton—a hidden gem with fantastic food and a great atmosphere.

If it’s a Friday night, we’d head to Greeley for country swing dance lessons! Nothing beats a good night of dancing, great music, and twirling across the dance floor.

Day 4: Mountain Adventure with the RZR
Load up the RZR and head for an epic off-roading day in the mountains! There’s nothing like kicking up dust on the back trails, taking in breathtaking mountain views, and feeling the adrenaline rush of exploring Colorado’s rugged terrain.

Pack a cooler and stop for a picnic in the mountains—because food always tastes better with a view.

After a full day of adventure, we’d wrap up with dinner at a great local spot near the mountains before heading home.

Day 5: Rodeo Night – Because Everyone Needs Rodeo in Their Life! 🤠
Sleep in a little, then enjoy a slow morning sipping coffee on the porch before heading out for the day.

If it’s summer, we’d hit up Estes Park or Rocky Mountain National Park for a scenic drive and wildlife spotting.

If it’s winter, we’d head to a cozy spot for some local shopping and sightseeing.

The highlight of the day? Rodeo Night! Whether it’s the legendary Greeley Stampede, Cheyenne Frontier Days, or a smaller local rodeo, there is nothing like the energy of live rodeo action. Watching bull riding, barrel racing, and team roping under the lights is pure Western adrenaline.

Day 6: Back to the Water (Summer) / Skiing or Snowboarding (Winter)
Summer: Head back out to the lake for another fun-filled day on the water. Whether it’s boating, paddleboarding, or just relaxing on the shore, nothing beats a warm Colorado day on the lake. Maybe even break out the wakeboard for some extra fun!

Winter: If they prefer a more relaxed, less crowded ski experience, we’d head to Snowy Range in Wyoming. It’s one of my personal favorites—affordable, beautiful, and not packed with crowds.
If they want bigger mountains and more of a resort feel, we’d make the trip to Winter Park, CO. It’s got incredible terrain and a lively atmosphere.

Either way, we’d spend the day soaking in the beauty of the season—whether on the water or the slopes.

Dinner at Bruce’s in Severance—where you HAVE to try Rocky Mountain Oysters at least once! It’s a Colorado rite of passage.

Day 7: Relax & Dance the Night Away
The last day would be a slower-paced day, just soaking in the peacefulness of country living.
Maybe take another morning walk on the dirt roads, spend some time outdoors, and just enjoy the views.

Before heading to the airport, we’d squeeze in one last adventure—another night of country swing dancing because there’s no better way to wrap up an epic trip than spinning, laughing, and dancing to some great country music.

The Perfect Mix of Adventure & Connection
For me, the best way to experience Colorado is outside, surrounded by nature, doing things that make you feel alive. Whether it’s hiking, boating, shooting, country dancing, or cheering at a rodeo, this state has a way of grounding you and making you feel closer to God.

So if my best friend were visiting, I’d make sure they got a week filled with unforgettable adventures, amazing food, country fun, and the best of what Colorado has to offer.

Who’s ready for a trip?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout: The People Who Shaped My Journey
Success is never a solo journey. While I have worked hard (and smart) to build my practice and life, I know without a doubt that I wouldn’t be where I am today without the incredible support, mentorship, and love from so many people.

First and foremost, my deepest gratitude goes to God and the Bible—the ultimate source of wisdom, strength, and guidance. My faith has been my anchor through every challenge and decision, and I know that every opportunity, every lesson, and every blessing has been part of His plan.

Next, my husband, Josh Jackson—my rock. He has stood by me through every crazy idea, every investment, every late-night brainstorming session. He has never tried to dim my ambition, and for that, I am endlessly grateful.

My two teenage boys, Colten (17) and Caiden (15)—they’ve quite literally grown up in this business. From being babies in my arms while I attended leadership conferences, to helping with mailers, moving equipment, mowing the grass, and even serving as models for clinic materials, they have been part of this journey from the very beginning. They’ve seen firsthand what it takes to build something meaningful, and they have always been my biggest fans. That’s why when they ask for an adjustment at 9 PM, I can’t say no—because they’ve been there for me every step of the way.

My parents—especially my mom, who has listened to me vent, decompress, and process the craziness of running a business. Sometimes, just having someone to hear you out is more valuable than advice.

My team—past and present. I have learned something from every single person who has worked in my clinic. In the early years, I’ll be the first to admit—I stunk at being a boss. I was reactive, and I had no training in leadership. To my early employees—I’m sorry. To those with me now—I am so incredibly grateful for your dedication, your patience, and your willingness to help me grow as a leader.

The mentors and coaches who have guided me along the way:

Dr. Tom Owen
Dr. Janel Hitson
Dr. Aaron Gumm
Dr. Cory Frogley
Each of them has played a role in shaping the way I run my practice, lead my team, and make decisions.

My colleagues—not just peers, but friends who have walked this journey with me. They have been there in the tough times and have celebrated the wins with me. Some of my best friends are also my colleagues, including Dr. Tony Dejti and Dr. Ashley Brunjes—I couldn’t ask for a better support system.

And of course, my amazing friends—Stephanie, Deb, Lisa, Trisha, and so many more. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day hustle and take relationships for granted, but I know that relationship capital is more valuable than any financial asset we have. These friendships remind me that life is about more than just business—it’s about connection, love, and lifting each other up.

To every single person who has been part of my journey—whether in a big or small way—thank you. You are all my angels here on earth, and I am forever grateful.
