Meet Jill Manning, Ph.D. | Betrayal Trauma Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill Manning, Ph.D. and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jill, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When I started my private mental health practice, my vision was to create a highly specialized and healing space for adults navigating the aftermath of sexual betrayal. Having worked in larger clinics, I saw how institutional limits, such as session caps or narrow treatment models, often hindered the depth of healing clients needed. Betrayal trauma treatment is a unique and growing field, and those impacted deserve care that reflects its complexity. As the first APSATS-certified betrayal trauma specialist in Colorado, I wanted to offer research-informed services through one-on-one therapy, support groups, and two-day intensives that respect each client’s pace, privacy, and story.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My practice is devoted exclusively to betrayal trauma care. It isn’t one area of my work; it’s the entirety of what I do. This singular focus allows me to stay deeply attuned to what truly supports betrayed adults in their healing. My doctoral research centered on effective interventions for sexually betrayed adults, and I continue to let research guide every aspect of my clinical work.
I’m one of the few clinicians who offer all in-person therapy groups, which I believe are especially effective for teaching grounding skills, nervous system regulation, and fostering meaningful recovery communities. I also offer digital worksheets and downloads on my website so that betrayed adults anywhere in the world may access practical, research-informed tools. Approximately one-third of these resources are available free of charge.
Another distinctive part of my practice is the two-day therapeutic intensives I offer on the second Friday and Saturday of each month. Clients from across the U.S. and Canada fly in to work with me one-on-one for twelve hours over two days, receiving customized betrayal trauma support and a personalized treatment plan.
A core belief that I hold is that we can leverage our deepest traumas to develop wholeness, insight, and self-respect we may not have otherwise discovered. My goal is to empower adults to know they always have choices and to remember that they deserve safety, dignity, and honesty.
Beyond my clinical work, I am active in advocacy and prevention efforts. I regularly appear as a guest on podcasts within the recovery community and serve on boards that promote internet safety and anti-obscenity initiatives. In 2025, I had the honor of testifying before five legislative bodies in support of age-verification laws designed to protect minors from sexually explicit content.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I was born in Europe to Canadian parents and have lived internationally for most of my life—France, Australia, Canada, Israel, and the United States—so when I say that I love Colorado, it’s with an international perspective that I do so. We are fortunate to have an outstanding international airport, incredible mountain access, and a vibrant arts and sports scene.
A perfect day with a visiting friend would start with nail treatments at In Good Hands with Kamala Tran, followed by a stop at the Bobbi Brown counter in Cherry Creek for a makeup consultation with Ronnie. From there, we’d enjoy dinner at Cherry Creek Grill, then end the evening with a performance at the Denver Center for Performing Arts.
If visiting in the summer, I’d also swing by one of the local farmers’ markets to sample Colorado peaches, honey, black raspberries, or watermelons. For a longer stay, I’d treat them to an action-packed CU Buffs Women’s Volleyball game, a personal favorite.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to my longtime supervisor and mentor, Michelle D’Arcy, LCSW, LAC, CAC. For nearly seven years, Michelle has been an anchor of wisdom and support in my professional life. Her depth of skill in trauma work, addictions, and family-of-origin issues has profoundly shaped me as a clinician. She is also a Post Induction Therapy (PIT) trainer and expert, and brings remarkable insight and depth to her supervision. Michelle isn’t afraid to challenge me or to tell me what I need to start (or stop) doing to grow as a clinician. She frequently encourages me to pursue additional trainings that keep me on the cutting edge of my field and best able to serve my clients. She’s also someone I can share a good laugh with, which is essential for keeping my sanity intact. Michelle is one of the most well-rounded professionals I know, and her influence inspires my work daily.
