Meet Jo And Hoa Vu | Brow artist and barber

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jo And Hoa Vu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jo and Hoa, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Since becoming parents, we have found ways to prioritize balance in our lives. Given the fleeting nature of time and the chaos that comes with raising three children, we have learned to prioritize what truly matters. We enjoy our work and appreciate the relationships we have with our work family and clients, knowing that we will also make ample time to devote to our kids. Having grown up with refugee parents who were often absent due to their tireless efforts to provide for us, we have come to appreciate the importance of family time. Our parents came to America in survival mode, and we have no resentment towards their sacrifices. Now that we are able to plan our time more effectively, we want to make sure that family remains our top priority, with all else following suit. We’re deeply thankful for the strong work ethic our parents instilled in us, and equally grateful that we’ve learned how to keep work from overshadowing everything else that matters.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Hoa: I was always in art related classes growing up, realism to anime. I took to geometry the most. Symmetry. I also took an interest into hair and how the shape of hair can mean something. As I got into hair for college financial goals, I fell in love with how hair and art goes together.
Jo:
Honestly, I never imagined I’d grow up to become an artist of any kind. I grew up in a super strict household—my parents wouldn’t even let me wear makeup or nail polish. But at 17, I started doing freelance makeup. Back then, I did makeup and photography for anyone on the internet who would hire me—lol! I’m pretty sure a few of those old photos are still floating around somewhere.
Fast forward, and I became a full-time makeup artist, doing hundreds of weddings every year for almost two decades. Eventually, I retired from the wedding world and found my way into permanent cosmetic makeup. What I’ve realized along the way is that what I truly love most are transformations. Whether it’s a dramatic before-and-after with makeup or a beautiful brow transformation, that moment of change is what inspires me every single time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
What makes Denver stand out is its balance of urban life and nature. You can explore vibrant downtown streets one minute and go skiing in the mountains just a short drive away the next. There’s something about the combination of city excitement and outdoor adventure that really draws so many people to Colorado. Vail and Beaver Creek are some of the most beautiful mountains. Our kids are also good on the slopes!
We love that the art district of RINO, the highlands, and south Broadway all offer good vibes. You’ll find a lot of people out and about just enjoying a good time in the perfect summer night weather.
We tell all of our friends to come to Denver to check out a show at Red Rocks amphitheater. Red Rocks Amphitheater is more than just a concert venue—it’s an experience that feels almost magical. Watching a show there is unforgettable: you’re sitting under a blanket of stars, breathing in fresh mountain air, and the city lights of Denver sparkle in the distance. Once you’ve seen a show at Red Rocks, nowhere else compares!
