We had the good fortune of connecting with John Alex Vespa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John Alex, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind creating Bushwhack Life was a simple question I asked myself, “how do I incorporate positively impacting the environment and my love for animals?” After years of professionally training and caring for pets and a stint at soap making I found myself missing the creative outlet that the soap making had given me. So I started off making an organic toothpaste for myself and my own dogs. I quickly realized there was nothing like it on the market and it took off from there.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Bushwhack Life handcrafts organic multi-use products for people and their pets, whether at home or on the go. The intention is to DO MORE WITH LESS. The climate is changing and we as humans are being marketed to consume more. Our thought was to change the way people looked at consumerism by offering multi-use products that are bio-based and in recyclable and reusable, not plastic, or compostable packaging. Which in turn has a positive impact on our environment. We are exited to educate people on the idea of being able to use one product for more than one purpose, like our Bush Spray. The Spray was originally created as an organic bug repellant, however over time the ingredients expanded and it has evolved into a bug repellent as we as disinfectant for cuts/scrapes, cleans surfaces, freshens clothes or can even used as a deodorant. That is just one product and a few of its uses. It isn’t easy to change the way people look at consumerism and how they use products but we know that in time enough people will see how important it is to make a change for the world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That’s easy, get them into the mountains! But first we would stop at Hops and Pie for pizza and then head to RMNP so they can experience the magic it offers. After head back to Longmont for a drink at Dry Land Distillers. If the weather isn’t great then we would check out Longmont Climbing Collective for some bouldering. Otherwise its mostly outdoor adventures exploring the beauty colorado offers
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The credit for my personal success and the success of Bushwhack Life goes to my family for always supporting me and showing me there isn’t a standard path to take in life or career. Even when my ideas seemed crazy to them they never made that apparent or told me it wasn’t possible. They instead asked me the right questions to better understand what I was doing or make sure I had a thought out plan. They pushed me to question the status quo and follow my passions. Having a support team for the failures and the successes is key to anyone looking to achieve more in their life. My family has made this very apparent.
