We had the good fortune of connecting with John Dicicco and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I perused a creative career path in fine arts to follow my passion. I have had a love for art for as long as I can remember. It simply makes me feel electric. In other words, it’s my drive the thing that I look forward to.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Art is everything to me. It’s the only time that I feel free, like nothings holding me back. I am a very creative person so to be able to have total freedom is my pursuits really make me happy. I am only 20 so I have a lot to hone into and find my most valuable asset to the community. As somebody that has been in the industry for 5 years I personally believe that my most valuable asset is my ability to take any role. I am extremely flexible and have lot of training in all areas of the art scene. In the beginning of my personal establishment I found it very challenging to find opportunities being so young. I didn’t let this stop me and just found different ways in. One of the most effective ways I found was volunteering. Volunteering helps build strong referencing that will ultimately make a booking. Another great resource is social media. For me, I found Instagram in particular the best. Numerous people and opportunities are lurking in your feed. I suggest utilizing your page as a digital portfolio.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a Colorado native born a raised in a small town friends from school coming back home is very rare. If they did I would use this opportunity to remind them all about what they are missing out on. This small town living is not something everyone knows about. It’s kinda true we almost have a different way of life. The most important thing as a guest would be remembering to slow down and take it chill. This doesn’t mean that you can’t have a jam-packed day. Just remember plan it with plenty of time. If they visited for a week I would focus on them having one full day for activities and the remainder with family and friends. The perfect day for a friend in Colorado would need to include an alpine hike. One of my favorites is Ice Lake basin right outside of Silverton. This hike is a great way to start a day and not burn out before suns down. The fact that the road to this trail is very easy makes it worth the revisit. Following a day of hiking, I would go to the close town of Ouray and jump in the hot springs. This is absolute heaven and really allows you to wind down and loosen up from the long day hiking. Next I would use the facilities there to change and get ready for dinner. Following the loop I would drop into Telluride for a ride up the gondola and dinner at Allred’s. This restaurant has such a stunning location with incredible service and food. I am so honored to have it close to home.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In the arts community I strongly believe that the “who you know” is going to get you a little farther than the “what you know”. Along my journey of self establishment I was able to find an incredible group of individuals. These individuals created a community of incredible artists. I was able to join them as a volunteer along the way and couldn’t be more thankful for the opportunity they offered. I was able to make a lot of connections that were long lasting and still are. Not only that but what this community represents and demonstrates is absolutely groundbreaking. They are truly making the impact that this industry needs to see. This group would be Color of Fashion by founders Samantha Joseph and Alicia Myers.
