We had the good fortune of connecting with John Gay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued my art career bc it was something i enjoyed doing. I watched people go to work and hate their jobs and have such a bad/negative attitude towards life and the people in it. I realized I didn’t want that and wanted to do something I wanted to do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is based around ancient cultural mythology and folklore. Altered states of consciousness and psychedelic experiences. The divine feminine and religious experiences. I try to depict the divine feminine as a powerful but elegant being with a comforting but stern attitude. I want all women to connect with their inner goddess and bring out their power for the world.
I’ve had many challenges over the years and some are just going to happen, no getting around it. You just have to keep trucking and manifest your dreams. Stay positive and keep your head up.
I hope people can look at my art and be inspired to do their craft or whatever it is that they truly love that makes them happy.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many things to do in Denver and the surrounding areas. I would definitely check out a show at Redrocks. Go hiking, to many amazing spots to choose from. Check out the RiNo art district and grab some food at a local brewery. There are a lot of cool art galleries to see and murals to check out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my mom who always made sure I had pencils paper and charcoal to do my craft with amd pushed me to not give up if I liked doing it.
