We had the good fortune of connecting with Johnny Malfara and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Johnny, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Ever since entering the workforce I knew I wanted to go into business for myself. There’s nothing wrong with working for other people, I just knew it wasn’t for me. I heard a quote when I was younger that has always stuck with me. “Build your dream otherwise someone will hire you to help build theirs” I knew I would put in more hours and work harder if it were for myself. Having a problem with authority didn’t help haha.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My primary business is AML Production Studio. We are Colorado Springs highest consumer rated recording studio. We opened in the beginning of 2018 and has worked with hundreds of clients of the years.

I’d say what separates us is building connections/relationships with our clients. We all get to know each other as we create art together. It’s more of a family feel at AML.

Getting to where we are now took a look of early mornings and late nights. We invested tons of time networking and improving the quality of our service. It is a tough road but the only way to get to where we want to be is by moving forward.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned while building this business is to be genuine with the people you work with and to always be learning more about your craft.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Our first stop would be 503W. Every time I have a friend visit from out of town I take them there, the food and drinks are amazing!

Gotta have a weekend morning starting off at viewhouse for their mimosa tower too of course. Not to mention their wings!

For a good lunch spot I always love the El Poblano truck and Fat Sullys!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by great people while chasing my dreams over the years. I’ve got to give thanks to my business partner Andrew for being so supportive while learning new things and working long hours to reach our goals. I’d also like to recognize Trent Howard. He’s helped me get closer to God, improve my health physically and mentally and has always been a solid guy than you can rely on. He’s helped teach me a level of discipline that affects all aspects of my life both personally and professionally.
