We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Person and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
No risk, no reward.

When I started my business in 2010, the entire concept was a risk – one I was completely willing to take. Cannabis Massage was a brand new idea a decade ago, and the idea gained traction quickly. Before I knew it, I was receiving media requests from around the world, and I had a growing list of potential students and partnerships.

I remember the day my logo was finished and I sent it to a friend in a non-legal state, his advice “I would take the cannabis leaf out of the image, what if someone wants a massage from you and they are afraid of the plant?” I scoffed at him, “then they aren’t the client for me, that is the opposite of what I want to do with this business!”

I have thought of that conversation over the years, forever grateful that I did not listen to him. I am grateful that I took the risk – to do something no one else was doing – and I stepped outside my comfort zone. The rewards of the last ten years of my life have been plentiful.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
“I have been self employed for the last ten years.” Wow! It’s amazing to think about…

Parts of me feel like it took forever and parts of me feel like I blinked and poof it was gone. Choosing to perform Cannabis Massage as a profession changed everything about my life for the better. It has allowed me to have breakthroughs in client care that I would have never experienced without it, as well as personal growth that comes with being the sole proprietor of a business.

Primal Therapeutics accelerated my passion for cannabis and educating people why they should utilize the plant in their daily lives. My voice became louder with each success story and by 2017 I created my first course, Cannabis Massage 101. I had students come from far and wide to learn everything they could about this holistic modality. Even without the ability to give my students credit for their class, due to all the major accrediting associations refusing to work with me because I taught about cannabis, they still learned with me -and even asked for more.

I craved a larger platform to spread my knowledge and in 2019, I submitted a version of my first class to the conference series, IECSC -the International Esthetics Cosmetics and Spa Conferences. It was well received by attendees but the director of education saw something in me and wanted to expand my platform in a way I never envisioned. Always pay attention to those people in your life. The ones that push you, the ones that encourage you to be even greater than you knew you could be.

I launched Cannabis Massage 102 at the end of 2020. I spent a big chunk of that crazy time we all spent indoors, unable to perform massage therapy, working on a new way to deep dive into the subject, adding even more about what other plants can benefit our massage practices. I also started crafting courses designed for spa professionals and estheticians.

The last ten years have taught me that I love to teach and mentor, and be a resource to my students and anyone that wants to learn more about what I have learned touching thousands of people with cannabis topicals.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever I have friends and family come and visit we like to get outdoors – weather permitting. I am from Florida and even though I have been in Colorado for 14 years this year, I still refuse to drive in the snow, and honestly I think the natives here appreciate that fact about me, lol.

I live in the sweet town of Longmont and I love the whole feel of the downtown Main Street area. So anytime someone comes to visit, we always spend an afternoon visiting all of the adorable shops and eateries. We walk up and down the whole street, but I always stop in The Roost for nibbles, and Magic Fairy Candles for unique gifts and immaculate vibes.

We always take a drive through Boulder into Nederland and then hike somewhere in Nederland.

We spend a day or two in Estes Park. Another cute downtown area. You must eat ice cream from one of the old shops and they are also known for a taffy shop. There is a wonderful restaurant called Seasoned – An American Bistro, that is so fresh and delicious.

Then up 70 we go to any town my friends choose. Hot springs are a common choice and any of the unreal amount of hikes Colorado has to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am today without the people that have seen my vision right alongside of me. To my students, all over this beautiful world, thank you for trusting me as your teacher – you all motivate me in ways I can’t even begin to describe. To my mentor, Diane – thank you for seeing something in me that I didn’t realize was there. To Sherry, thank you for the last 5 years of standing by me and Primal Therapeutics. To Tessa, thank you for managing me, assisting me, and being down for the get down for the last 6 years for both Primal Therapeutics and Primal Healing. The loyalty you have ALL shown me lives deep in my soul, and I am so very grateful for all of you.
