Meet Joseph Higgins | Founder of Professional Virtual Golfers of America

We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Higgins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseph, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Being a golf enthusiast I’ve always loved the challenge and camaraderie of playing a round with friends. Living in a northern climate lends itself to the need for creative ways to continue playing golf year round. After playing in an indoor golf league a few years ago I started devising a way to involve the golf community in friendly competition across the country. Since nothing like this has been attempted before I knew it would be a challenge but knew it would be worth the effort to create a large indoor golf community. Creating something out of a passion is always something that has been on my list.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Every great journey begins with the first step. It’s often the hardest part of taking on any challenge is finding the courage to jump in and commit. Starting a project that has never been done and has no template or guidelines to follow has been daunting and having to talk yourself out of doubt is often a major obstacle. I’ve found that digging into the project is always a great way to work through those doubts. I adopted a one more philosophy for many things including work and before I step away from anything work, exercise etc. I always try to talk myself into doing just one more of whatever it is. Building a national indoor golf league that connects multiple businesses and simulator systems has not been easy but the community we’ve grown has been so supportive and made it incredibly rewarding to take on.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Absolutely would have to visit Avon, and take them to our partner location Vail County Club for a great time. Kenny has built such a great venue to visit have a great time out of the elements. Of course spending time in the mountains is always a preferred pastime.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shoutout to the indoor golf simulator businesses that have been extremely positive and forward thinking to participate in this great experiment. Their support and enthusiasm for this venture has been extremely valuable throughout my journey.
