We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshwayy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshwayy, what is the most important factor behind your success?
To me, the most important factor behind my success so far, is the fact that I am TRULY people first in what I do. That is the reason why I even started on my journey in the first place. People love music, people are moved by music, and people’s live can be impacted in more ways you can imagine by music and I want to have a part in that experience. Yes of course money has it’s importance because I need to make a living of course haha, but it’s not my driving force. I have prices set a certain way (based on my experience level, equipment, time etc..) but I ALWAYS read every person/booking for what it is and if I feel to be lenient with a person’s budget I always do that. Because as I state earlier, I want to be a part of that experience that can possibly have a great impact on their life and I see myself as the best option to make that happen 🙂 I do this for the people, not for the popularity, and thats the “Josh..wayy” haha

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I feel what sets me apart is how I care about people first over my business/brand/money. To my core I truly do this for the people. I love to make people smile so whether that is me cracking jokes, encouraging them to follow their dreams, or entertaining them to have one of the best times of their life, I am all about it!

So my “truly putting people first” mindset pushes me to learn people. When you seek to understand people, where someone is from, what they look like, and what they believe in aren’t reasons to separate, but reasons to learn and connect. This has led me, a boy born and raised in DC, to be comfortable communicating and entertaining country folk, the hispanic community, people from rough areas, people from affluential families, islanders, the asian community and others! Im not just saying that I truly have had either 1 on 1s or full on events where I entertain those groups.

So since I did not shy away from what could seem scary, awkward or difficult and decide to take on things with an open mind, my ability, success and impact have grown in ways I couldn’t have imagined growing up how I did.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First things first I want to thank my puzzle piece Stephanie who has literally been there from the beginning! Literally there when I hosted my first event ever (a homecoming pageant at our college), and also there when I started DJing on my first ever tiny plastic cheap tuntables I got from goodwill when still in college haha. She never doubted me, she only encouraged me. She supported me, taught me cultural music (she is hispanic and that music was new to me) which made me even better and marketable, she told people about me which gave me more Hosting and DJing opportunities, and has literally never said I wasn’t good enough and not have what it takes. Because of that, I see why I pushed even harder to be better, get better opportunities, have the confidence to turn my hobby into a full on business!

I also want to thank my parents who always taught me as a child “if Im going to do something, fully commit and do it with my all” and my mothers favorite catch phrase “Shake n Bake and then double coat it” haha! That was what she told me when I was playing sports younger and I carry that sentiment to this day for everything I do.

And lastly I want to thank every person who has hired me, encouraged me, told me that I am the best, that spoke life into me, and told me their stories of how I had brought them through a dark place just from my performance. The people who told me they haven’t danced in over 30 years but that night they couldn’t help themselves but to dance and have one of the best memories they’ll have.

I do this for all of you
