We had the good fortune of connecting with Jozlyn Knight and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jozlyn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always loved taking photos, I remember carrying around my disposable cameras, taking pictures of people and things since I was 16 years old. My main muse was my baby brother who is 15 years younger than I. Once I got serious about it, I thought about how my family did not have family photos, it’s just not something we did. I thought everyone should have an updated photo, something to display, something to look back on, close your eyes and just remember that exact feeling you felt that very moment you were there snapping that photo. I knew I wanted to capture these moments and these memories for families because a person’s memory fades, these images are timeless and can be looked back on for generations to come.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What I love most about what I do is that I get to meet new people, I get to see them at their best, all while enjoying being with who they are with. I think in most cases, family is most everyone’s priority, so seeing these families interact, spend time together, laugh, and love each other is just an amazing thing to be a part of.
There are so many amazing photographers out there today, so I think just me being me and making my clients comfortable around me is what has gotten me to where I am. I have a special place in my heart for children so when I have an amazing session with them, their parenrs/gaurdians spread the word, people know I am great with kids, I will make them have the time of their life in what could be a stressful time for them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have 3 children who love adventure, most of our outings are kid centered. We absolutely love going to the Cheyenne Mountain zoo, Who doesn’t love taking a drive to Estes Park and admire all that beauty that is so close to home? Garden of the Gods is a must see. There are so many good places to eat, and trust me, we eat out a lot. One of our favorite spots is Chuy’s in Westminster, Tequilas in Northglenn, and Happy Sumo!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My incredible husband has been so supportive throughout this whole journey. He has supported me since the day I told him I wanted to take this further and make a business out of it. He has never questioned it, but rather encouraged me. Whether it’s him buying me equipment, driving me somewhere where I didn’t want to drive by myself, giving me input on anything. I also have incredible friends and family who have been with me along the way, always sharing my content, spreading the word, telling people about me and my business. Thanks to them, word of mouth has been my greatest blessing when it comes to booking sessions.
