We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Trinh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Always knew I loved storytelling and cameras! It all started in high school when I took my first journalism class 14 years ago. My love for the journalism field grew each year. By senior year in 2013, I reached my goal of being Editor in Chief of our yearbook! In 2018, I graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelors degree in the Broadcast Journalism field. From there I had the opportunity to become a Journalist and an official News Anchor. After working in the industry, I realized I wanted more freedom and control of my schedule. I discovered a world of Wedding Photography shortly after. From the first wedding I worked I knew I this was going to be an important part of my life and career. On January 22, 2020 Julie Trinh Photography was official open for business!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an International Wedding and Elopement Photographer. My artwork is built based on a journalistic approach. My art is focused on being intentional and an authentic storyteller. Being a photojournalist first and creative art director second. My strong photojournalist approach to capture emotion and authenticity is what drives my brand to stand out.

There are three things I am most proud of, 1. The impact of being a photographer. I am proud of my work in the wedding industry and having a special role in the most important day some would call of their lives. I live to record history and to tell stories for future generations. 2. I am proud to be working in a creative environment. It is truly magical to be vulnerable and authentic with my artwork. Taking space in this creative realm has amplified my life in more ways than I can count. And for number 3. I am extremely humbled and honored by my awards and achievements in this industry. Awards: Wedding Rule’s 21 Best Wedding Photographer in Omaha 2023, Expertise Wedding’s 20 Best Wedding Photographer in Omaha 2023, Best of Omaha Best Wedding Photographer 2022, Wedding Pioneer’s 16 Best Wedding Photographer in Omaha 2022, Giggster’s Top 8 Wedding Photographer in Omaha 2022, Wedding Rule’s 21 Best Wedding Photographer in Omaha 2022, Expertise Wedding’s 20 Best Wedding Photographer in Omaha 2022 and Wedding Rule’s 21 Best Wedding Photographer in Omaha 2021.

When I reflect on what things got me to where I am today, I believe the following three things are best to acknowledge: hard work/determination, skill, and luck. I have set my eyes on being a photographer/journalist since 2009. I put in over fourteen years of taking photographs, interviewing people, researching history and cultures, writing countless stories, and being touched by an amazing amount of people. As much skill I can sharpen and experience I can have, luck has played a big role as well. During my adolescent years technology has vastly increased and continues to every day. I explain luck as a part of my story because growing up and having the internet/social media as a resource is a big part of my career.

Working in a field that is 100% dedicated to people and emotions can definitely be difficult. Emotions run very high on wedding days for people and it is very understandable. There are things that can often occur out of your control and as a photographer you learn to roll with it. Luckily I am a very adaptable person and can make light out of any situation. If it rains, we will embrace it with dancing and umbrellas.

What I want the world to know about my brand is that these wedding photographs are about you and your love story. Each wedding I shoot is unique to you and what makes your love magical.

The little details of your grandmother’s veil, great grandpa’s compass from World War II, and mom’s homemade wedding ring passed down seven generations matter to me.

The tears in your partner’s eyes when you walk down the aisle, the way you grip your tissue while saying your vows, and the slow emotional moments while putting on your wedding dress are what my eyes are focused on behind the camera.

I don’t take photographs that are “trendy” and “cool.” I take wedding portraits that are meaningful, historic, and impactful for generations.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Denver, I would spend the week taking them all over the city. We’d start at coffee at Dandy Lion Coffee then grab sushi at Osaka Sushi and stroll through the different art districts in the late afternoon. My favorite is River North Art District. Next day we would spend it all day at museums and Meow Wolf is a must! To top off we’d do some tacos at Uno May Taqueria y Cantina and cocktails at The Wild. Continuing on the adventure we would spend sometime at the local escapes rooms like EscapeWorks Denver, grab a drink at a local brewery, and finish up at the 1Up Arcade bar. Can’t forget to fuel up with Pho at What The Pho and sing karaoke at V2 Sports Bar and Restaurant. Also while they are in town we would catch local shows at Fillmore Auditorium and a game or two of baseball at Coors Field or football at Empower Field at Mile High depending on the season!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It is without a doubt I would not be the photographer I am without these incredible mentors in my life. First, unquestionable gratitude is owed to my high school journalism teacher and first mentor, Janet Raddish, for believing in me and my work. Mrs. Raddish not only taught me about textbook journalism and camera manuals, but she also sparked excitement in my soul.

In college I was introduced to my broadcast journalism Professor, Jodeane Brownlee who has always been an energized positive cheerleader in my corner. Through her work as a journalist I learned to developed a voice in my work.

A thank you is also warranted to Huy Nguyen for taking me under his wing and teaching me all the ins and outs as a wedding photographer. I couldn’t possible blossom in this industry without an introduction from Huy.

Next, Grace Trout has been the best business and photographer mentor I can ask for over these last few years. She truly has been on speed dial for everything since 2019. Anything I ned help with Grace knows how to help me like the back of her hand.

And last but not least, my dear partner, Matt Tarsikes for encouraging me to push the limits on societal constraints and to live a life/create a career with meaning outside of the box. Matt has always been the best supportive partner.
