We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Carr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I reached a point in my previous business where I was working for an employer that I couldn’t go any further.. I had reached a glass ceiling and I thought I could do more for myself if I started on my own. I deliberate it over this decision for quite a while, and I have no regrets.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been a professional fishing guide for 15 years in the Vail Valley of Colorado, and a Fly Fishing Outfitter owner for the last three years. I have strived to be the best guide I can possibly be in my flyfishing career, bringing the greatest amount of effort, knowledge, and drive to succeed in this business. The process wasn’t easy, but I love what I do for a living. At Colorado angling company we strive to give the absolute best customer service and experience possible for an outing on the water. We are centrally located in the Vail Valley, and we offer guide trips every single day of the year.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend joining me in the Vail Valley, every season would lead to different options for activities and dining. Let’s take the summer for instance, we love starting with handmade bagels and coffee from Village Bagel in Edwards, then head out for a rafting and fishing trip on the Eagle River. After the float, we can relax on any of the numerous decks spread throughout the valley for libations and live music – like The Minturn Saloon. And the rest of the week would be filled with the same kind of activities – mountain biking, hiking, Whitewater, rafting, fly fishing, golf courses, horseback riding, paintball just to name a few. The Vail valley is a hotspot for activities and dining and there are hundreds of restaurants within 15 minutes.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First Shouout goes to my business partner, Anthony Mazza, Who owns an operates several of his own businesses and had the faith to bring me into this one. The next shout out would be to my immediate family who are by my side, working through all the hiccups and highs and lows of starting a business – both one for myself and one for my wife, Carly.
