We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Christensen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I had been a Insurance Agent representing one insurance company, following their agenda as a “1099” business owner. even though I was “self employed” I still had to run my business how they suggested.
I decided to open my Independent Agency so that I may continue in the industry that I enjoy and have the creative freedom to take my agency in the direction that I thought was best.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
There are two different kinds of Insurance Agents. Captive Agent is someone who sells insurance for a single insurance company and an Independent Insurance Agent. I am and Independent Agent and I have the ability to work for my clients. To ensure that they are getting the best coverage at the best rate possible by not being stuck with a single company option. There are many Independent Agents out there, but what sets myself apart from the rest is that I am available to my clients whenever they need me, Not just 8-5 Monday through Friday. When I meet with possible clients, I truly wish to know their story, I want to meet the family. I want them to become an extension of my family. Being an Insurance Agent can be extremely difficult. To succeed you need to be out showing all of the people you wish to trust you with their most valuable assets that you are a trust worthy person. Building that trust takes time, its not something that can be achieved by just advertising.
People have many options to choose from when it comes to their insurance. So I position Christensen Insurance Agency to show all of the community that they matter beyond the doors of my office. When we sit down for a review, Im not going to sell you insurance products that you do not need just to pad my paycheck. We are going to go over all the coverages available so you can be informed and make the best decision that you can make, so in the event that you ever need to use your insurance, you have confidence that you are in the right hands!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am a big fan of the Front Range, There is so much to see and do, so many places to get great food! when my friends come to visit, I like to take them to restaurants that they may have never tried before. Maybe Big Al’s Burgers and Dogs In Ft Collins. We would find our way to the 16th st mall in Denver to explore everything there is to offer for shopping, food and maybe a good night on the town.
If my friends brought their kids, we would have to go to Water World or Fort Fun for a good time with then kids, It seems like there is something going on at the Pepsi Center that would be interesting to attend.
The 4th of July firework in Fort Collins by the lake is always a great event to attend. Or maybe Seven Falls out by Colorado Springs.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When I decided that being an Insurance Agent is what I wished to do professionally, I sat down with my family to discuss the pros and cons of the profession. My parents (Randy and Cyndi) were on board with the idea from day one. They could hear the excitement in my voice as I told them all of the finer points of the business. Fast forward 10 years to when I have started planning to open my Independent Agency, My better half (Amanda) and I sat down a and discussed what all it takes and the commitment that it will entail to start this journey. Amanda looked at me and told me that this new agency would succeed due to my persistence as well as treating my clients as family and not just a means for a paycheck. Amanda and my parents encouraged me to make this new leap of faith, the support that I received from all of them has helped make me better Son, Husband, Father, and Agent. Without their support, my goals would not have been realized as quickly as they have been.
