We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaitlin Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaitlin, what do you want people to remember about you?
I hope that people remember the way I made them feel. I want to be a person who invokes confidence in the people i work with. I am in a very fortunate position to get the opportunity to make people feel their very best on their wedding day, and I hope they remember how beautiful they felt on that day, and it carries into their relationship in the future.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Hair and makeup artist in the West Elk mountains. I finally landed my booth at New Moon Salon in Crested Butte, CO, and have been able to start my own business! With an amazing introduction to the wedding industry through Leta Maunz, who has been feature in several Colorado bridal magazines, I have really fallen in love with the industry. I truly believe this is my purpose. I have been so fortunate since starting with the salon. They have given me space to learn how to work without too much overstimulation, and given me the opportunity to own my own business and literally pursue my dreams. I feel like I have to pinch myself every morning that I get to do what I do, and live where I live! As for my work, my goal is to make someone’s day, no matter what! I get comments from brides on how they don’t feel any anxiety on their wedding days working with me. Making people feel confident, beautiful, and relaxed is my gift; why I truly believe I was put on this earth. I love the connections I get to make through my craft, and watching someone who could hardly look in the mirror when they came in, to someone who can’t look away from themselves. It’s such a magical moment that I am truly blessed to experience. I’ve only been working in my own business for about 2 years and was flattered to be voted “Best in the Butte”, which is a local vote of the community. I love where I live. I love the community that continues to grow, and the slow mountain lifestyle if affords. I hope to hold on to my housing and continue to grow my business helping high mountain brides feel their best, as well as my amazing community members to treat themselves they way they deserve. Look good, feel good, do good!!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Crested Butte, there is limited food, but also delicious food! We would have to hit up all the staples, starting at The Dogwood, a craft cocktail cabin. It has the most well balanced, delicious cocktails on the planet! My favorite is the shrub! As for the adventures, we would get out of town! Hike the peak, forage for mushrooms, and in the winter, we would most definitely be skiing Mount CB!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am very fortunate to have a partner that supports me and was willing to take a hit if I jumped all in and it didn’t work out. Derek fully believes in me, and wants nothing more than for me to be truly happy in this life. I am one of the fortunate few who’s passion aligns with my career, and he knows that it’s important to me!
