We had the good fortune of connecting with Kali Taaffe- Rawls and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kali, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The very first wedding I planned was for a very dear friend of mine that was battling cancer at the time. Her and her husband were already legally married and had 3 children but they had never had a big wedding. I wanted them to experience this and set out to get a complete dream wedding donated. Not only was I successful at getting a wedding donated to this very deserving couple but I was lucky enough to book two weddings from people I had met during the process. I had a fantastic time coordinating those weddings and decided events was where I wanted to be. However, I was just starting my family and wanted the flexibility to create my own schedule so I was not missing all nights and weekends with them. KTR events then became reality.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am in the business of helping make dreams come true. I help couples take their vision and make it a reality on their very special day. I work hard and put my all into every event I do. I treat my couples and their guests like I would want my family treated. The best thing a couple can say to/about me is, “You/she took all our stress away.” That is my end game, how I know I did my job correctly. I have had a few couples burn me and from that I learned that not everyone values or acts with integrity and honesty. This will not change the way I run my business, I run it with my heart and compassion for others. These attributes are why my business has succeeded and why I was able to accomplish getting two weddings donated for deserving couples. These are also why I make lifelong friends with many of my couples.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First stop would be a concert at Red Rocks. From there we would need to visit The North Pole in Manitou Springs with a visit to Garden of the Gods on the way out. Next up would be catching a show at Lannie’s Clock Tower Cabaret and laughing our butts off at Comedy Works. A trip to a winery in Palisade or the hot springs in Pagosa Springs would round out our week of fun.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Family! Family is absolutely everything. I have the best family around and would not be who I am or where I am without them. My Mom, Dad and brother have supported me with every endeavor, dream and crazy idea I have presented to them (except for that time I wanted to drive all night to a different state to see the Backstreet Boys in concert , I was 16). They taught me the value of working hard for what you want and the importance of honesty, integrity and treating people how you wish to be treated. They never stopped encouraging me to be the best version of myself possible, and taught me the importance of living life to the fullest. My husband supported me going back to school to pursue events while also pursuing our dreams of expanding our family. He has waited up countless nights to make sure I arrive home from an event safe and sound, and is my sounding board when I need to bounce ideas off of him on how to serve my couples better or hang that tricky arch piece. He keeps the family going when I am at an all day event and encourages me ever step of the way.
