We had the good fortune of connecting with Kandra Becerra and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kandra, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
A byproduct that has come from starting my sleep business has been my passion for a work life balance. Operating a business out of my house with 2 little boys running around has been such a blessing. But it also taught me very early on that if I did not have clear boundaries around work and personal life, then I couldn’t give everything I have to my clients, and my family.
A few ways I have achieved this balance are:
– Clear and defined working hours for my clients. That way they know exactly when, and how they can expect to hear from me.
– Only checking my email if I have time to read, respond, and delete an email.
– Allowing myself to fully checkout from work while I am with my kids.
These practices can be quite difficult to continue on a daily basis. However, when I am very diligent with them not only does my business thrive, but so does my family!
What should our readers know about your business?
When I started my business 5 years ago, there weren’t too many sleep specialists around. Now, a quick Google search will reveal an ample amount of choices! I look at this as a positive thing. Having more choices means more parents are readily accepting this form of support in their everyday lives.
It is also very important to me when tired parents are searching for help, that reaching out to my company becomes a no-brainer. I want them to immediately feel like help is easily achievable. With a kind, compassionate, understanding team, we get it, because we have been exactly where our tired parents have been!
This first-hand experience has completely shaped the way that we support and coach our families. Starting with a very thorough 90-minute consultation is key. We go through a thorough assessment of sleep education specific to each family. Then we review their new sleep plan. Each detail is carefully laid out for them. Teaching our parents WHY we are doing something before HOW we are going to do it is essential.
From there staying in touch on a daily basis is key. We have phone calls every few days, and check-ins via Voxer in between those calls. This coaching is what sets us apart. We are passionate about helping our families each step of the way!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live in Parker. However, we find that we spend a lot of our time in Lone Tree. The Park Meadows area to be exact. I grew up in Ft. Collins and going to Park Meadows was a day-long event. I pinch myself that I now live so close to one of my favorite spots. First on the list would be dinner at our favorite restaurant, White Chocolate Grill. Their food, drinks, and service are impeccable!
The area right outside with the running water is so peaceful and beautiful. And since we have little kids heading over to the nearby bowling alley, Bowlero would be essential. It is so big, clean, and has something for everyone to do.
If we had friends staying for a week then we would have to take a trek up the mountain to Winter Park. One of our favorite mountain towns. Snow tubing in nearby Frisco would be a stop as well as dinner at the famous Hernando’s pizza.
Narrowing down what we would do in a week is tough. Colorado has so much to offer!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A shoutout to my husband. Who didn’t bat an eye when I told him I wanted to quit my corporate job and start my own business. A man who understands that working nights and weekends often comes with the territory of my job. A man who jumps right into being a dad as soon as he walks into the door from work, so I can go to the office and get my work done. I am beyond grateful for a supportive partner!
