We had the good fortune of connecting with Katelyn Singh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katelyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I haven’t started my own business. I work full time as a software engineer and making content is a hobby of mine that I rarely profit off of.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m going to refer to content creation as my “career” for this answer. I got into content creation at a really young age. I would make videos in elementary school on my parents camcorder. This evolved into making YouTube videos in middle school (I attempted to be a beauty guru at the time), and now TikToks/Instagram videos for the past 2 years! I particularly wanted to share my journey learning to ski as an adult because I didn’t see a lot of adults learning on the internet, especially other women trying to better themselves on the slopes!
My biggest challenge was my fear of what others thought. That stopped me from posting for a while! I finally did and didn’t tell anyone except my partner. Eventually I told everyone and it’s massively increased my self confidence!
Along the way I’ve learned that you have to do the thing that you’re passionate about and post what makes you happy!
I want the world to know that I’m just a girl that loves to make videos and make the outdoors more approachable! I have a separate career that keeps me financially stable, so I’m really authentic online.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Boulder, Colorado! I love it here for living and working during the weekdays, but I love its access to the mountains for the weekends. I don’t do a lot of things other than using Boulder’s trail systems to save $ for adventures, but here are some places I’ve enjoyed over the years.
Places:
* Dushanbe Tea House
* Flagstaff Road – lookouts for both seeing the city and the mountains
* Chautauqua Park – to see the iconic flatirons
Restaurants:
* Folsom Thai
* Hapa Sushi
* Que Rico
* Dragonfly Noodle
Sweet Treat:
* Sweet Cow (ice cream)
Things to do:
* Hike at any of the Boulder OSMP trails (see their website – you cannot go wrong, there’s something for everyone)
* Bike on any of the bike paths – Boulder is a wonderfully bikeable city.
* Tube in Boulder Creek
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank my partner for teaching me to ski, showing me so many awesome dispersed camping spots, and always being down for any adventure I suggest. I’d also like to thank my friend Molly (@mollys_trailmix) who has taught me everything I know about backpacking and cross country skiing and is an awesome climbing partner as well. I wouldn’t be able to live the life I live without the support of my parents that gave me the education needed to have my job as a software engineer.
