We had the good fortune of connecting with Kati Scheibeler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kati, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Our group- a volunteer group of mostly women across the Denver metro area and Colorado that helps the community by reuniting lost animals with their owners and/or get to safety. We scour social media to make matches and notify appropriate parties, we help guide owners with civil assists for stolen animals, we scan found animals for chips, we pick up deceased animals for proper ID and cremation, we fundraise, and take all the necessary steps to help owners get their loved ones back.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It started with one or two people and has grown and grown. Often times our network expands by creating friendships with owners who know the pain of having a lost animal or have a general love of animals. We are very much a “pay it forward” organization.

There a network of individuals and non-profits across the state. But, there are 5 main women (Pam, Renae, Barb, Monica and me) in the “group” that we refer to as the “crazy dog ladies” who have been working together for a number of years.

Everything we do, we do on our time for free. This is true for almost everyone we work with. The people in our group monitor lost and found reports, shelter intake information, animal control calls, deceased animal reports, and we run a number of social media groups. We also help hang fliers when we can, we track, trap, and fundraise as necessary. We try very hard to maintain and build relationships with the community- including other missing animal professionals, law enforcement, and shelters.

What we want people to remember is, never give up searching and “think lost not dumped, think lost not stray- always”.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t live in the Denver area anymore like most of the group. My entire family does and so I’d have to say- check out Belfiore Italian Sausage in Wheat Ridge for some killer sandwiches and wonderful homemade food.

I’d also recommend visiting any number of our state parks. And, of course, I would definitely make them tag along on any of our lost dog/cat cases and have them help hang posters.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this to the countless volunteers involved in animal welfare, many of which go completely unnamed and unnoticed. I also want to dedicate this to the animals we’ve never located or that have made their journey over the rainbow bridge. Lastly, I want to thank my mom for being my biggest supporter in all areas of my life
