We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Arabie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My business, The Hive Creative Marketing, was created sort of by happy accident.

I have an undergraduate and masters degree in Business Marketing, but after covid, I was home with my kids, enjoying time with them while they were little. My husband and I own an industrial supply business as well ( him being the one who primarily runs the business, while I am there for support and great ideas.) I noticed his company was severely lacking when it came to marketing.

I offered to start social media, and digital marketing for the company. From there, our network started seeing the business on social media and asking who was behind the new marketing efforts.

I realized there was a huge need for marketing support for businesses, specifically social media, as it’s not well understood.

The Hive grew from there as people started to ask me for help with their businesses.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My career has had so many twists and turns over the years. I think graduating in marketing, and having years of experience in sales, and being married to an entrepreneur set me up to feel confident to start my own business.
Owning your own business is NOT EASY and NOT GLAMOUROUS! I’ve learned that success in your business is mostly directly linked to your level of consciousness. This is a hard lesson to learn. You have to learn to separate yourself from your clients businesses success or failure. You are there to offer a service, and you do your very best to provide that service, but then you separate yourself from the outcome. You can only lead a horse to water, you can’t force it to drink.

The marketing may be on point, but if the sales team at that company isn’t following up on leads, sales won’t go up.

As a recovering people pleaser this has been difficult for me to hurdle. Also, charging what my services are worth has been a challenge. At the beginning there is so much imposter syndrome that it’s hard to accept that people will pay you well for what you do.

What I want people to know about The Hive is that we’re here busy working on building your brand through marketing. Our team works hard to make sure your story and message are being told so that your ideal client can find you, contact you, and pay you for your services.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, home of the best food, football, and St. Patty’s day parade you’ll find in the South.

If you came for a visit, I’d take you to my favorite restaurant, Mansurs for delicious Louisiana Cajun cuisine. I’d recommend the chargrilled oysters, and the crabcakes. We have the freshest seafood around!

If you came in the Fall, we’d head over to LSU for a Tiger Tailgate, and have a jello shot or two before heading into Tiger Stadium to watch an SEC football game.

If you were here in the Spring, we’d plan to go the the St. Patty’s Day Parade in March. It’s the best day in Baton Rouge!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I couldn’t do what I do without the support of my team. They are there supporting our clients and helping them build their business. They’re the queen bees that keep The Hive buzzing!
