We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Bergford and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I believe photos tell powerful stories and capture memories that last a lifetime. They bring out beauty and emotion, revealing how meaningful life is. I’ve loved photography since I was a little girl. So, it’s been an easy passion to turn into a business! I love people and stories; photography combines both of those. I’m so thankful to be doing this work!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I want my photography to tell authentic and meaningful stories. I believe faithful marriage, friendship, and families are the stories that change the world. When I capture photos, I want them to feel real with true-to-life color and emotion. I don’t want these photos to just be for your instagram page, I want them to capture your memories that get passed down for generations. These photos are a part of your legacy.

I’m a people-person gifted with making others feel comfortable, seen, and valued. Even more than the decade of experience behind a camera, I think this ability to connect with others is what sets me a part as a photographer.

There are always challenges as an entrepreneur. As a creative and entrepreneur, I’ve experienced that it feels really vulnerable to put my work out there. It’s easy to feel like it’s not perfect enough. Some of the best advice I’ve received to help push through this challenge had been: “product beats perfection.” Sure, make sure that the photo is excellent before calling it done. But at some point, getting the product out there is better than waiting for it to be perfect (because perfect doesn’t exist). This has helped in a variety of areas of life, but it has especially helped in growing a business by continuing to get a really beautiful product out there rather than getting in my head about it being perfect.

I want people to know that I am here to serve them. These are your moments & memories. I’m just here to capture them!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado Springs is a beautiful area with so much to see and do, especially if you love the outdoors like I do. To start, we’d go to Garden of the Gods Market for brunch, then head over to Red Rock Open Space for a hike. I love going on a sunset drive along Rampart Range Road from Garden of the Gods to Woodland Park–the view of Pikes Peak is hard to beat.

Stopping at the Broadmoor for dinner and to walk around is a must.

Another day, we’d hike to Palmer Lake Reservoir and get lunch at Black Forest Foods Cafe in Monument.

We’d make a stop at Loyal Coffee, Switchback, and Building Three throughout the week.

Also, if you want to dress up a little, going to tea at Glen Eyrie Castle is a lovely treat!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To Noah, my husband & best friend–the man who cheers for me endlessly. Thanks for all you do to make this dream possible!
