We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Wedum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business Rooted Flight Yoga LLC because I wanted an outlet for my passion to grow. I completed my yoga certificate in 2020 in the midst of the Pandemic, and it proved to be a wonderful experience that changed the trajectory of my life. The yogic lifestyle has given me the skills to cope and even thrive during the uncertainty of life. I’m very new as an entrepreneur, but excited at the path ahead. Along with my in-studio classes I’ve been given the opportunity to teach yoga to teens, throw yoga birthday parties, and will be co-facilitating of a yoga teacher training in March. This training marks a new chapter in my journey. I’m excited to share the learning that helped me so immensely when I needed it most.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Aside from teaching yoga, my main source of income is working for Virgin Experience Gifts as a Partnership Manager. My job is to learn about all of the amazing experiences offered in cities across the USA, and curate a catalog of experiences that are bought and sold as gifts for the people that you love. Think scenic dinner cruise on the Potomac, a glass blowing class in Orlando, a Beer Spa for your anniversary. I get the opportunity to work with 100’s of entrepreneurs doing what they love and sharing their passion with others. I guess you can say that their passion sparks my own.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting in Denver for a week, here are a few must do activities. We would grab a bite and a beer at the Stanley Beer Hall and some ice cream at the Sweet Cow.
Get our sweat on at Root to Rise in a hot yoga class, followed by some brunch at Four Friends Kitchen.
One night we would have to go to either Red Rocks or the Mission Ballroom for some live music.
A hike up in Guanella pass, followed by happy hour at 9th and Co’s Postino’s.
Check out the murals and the amazing bar scene in the Rino district.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out Andi Oliviera the owner of Root to Rise yoga. She has been an amazing role model, and built a strong community that has led to the growth of so many individuals.
