We had the good fortune of connecting with Kay Parker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kay, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I grew up in an extremely artistic household as a child. My mother was a Tattoo Artist/Piercer, photographer, along with a multitude of other mediums. She eventually pursued a degree in Art and is now teaching as a Professor in Colleges in Upstate NY, and has a studio in which she teaches private/group lessons as well. My father also is an extremely gifted painter, so it was only natural for me to gravitate towards all things artistic. Throughout high school you could always find me in the art department, whether it be drawing/painting, making t-shirts/sculpting, or hiding out in the dark room with my prints! I started pursuing Photography more seriously in 2017, leading to me starting my Photography business, Bewitched Studio Photography in 2019. Through this I was able to connect with so many amazing creatives, which led me to meeting Marsena Martinez (Mars) in 2020. We became great friends over the course of a couple years and then when she brought her shop, Fallen Desires Tattoos and Oddities to CO from Tennessee in Dec of 2021 she gave me the amazing opportunity to learn from her and apprentice under her!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Photography wise I’ve always loved creating; whether that be the sets/studio space or a full on theme/concept I just love being able to let my imagination run free and have as much fun with every photography session as I can! I’d say I like more fantasy, cosplay, anime, horror, decade themed styled sessions! I’d say my artwork reflects a lot of these same ideas as well! I love all things colorful & trippy, anime/fantasy, dark & creepy! I’m heavily influenced by the t.v shows and movies I’ve watched throughout the years as well!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ahhh this is a loaded one for sure! Hm I’d say we’d start the morning off driving up to Estes for some Cinnamon rolls from Cinnamon’s Bakery & while we’re up there get some taffy! On the way back we’d have to stop at the Colorado Cherry company and get a slice of pie! After that I’d make us drive all the way to CO springs for the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo & feed the giraffes! For lunch we’d do Hell’s Kitchen Pizza & after the Zoo for dinner we’d have reservations made at the Rabbit Hole! I’m a big foodie if you haven’t guessed that by now!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to shout out Marsena Martinez (IG: tattoos.from.mars) for not only being the most amazing Mentor I could as for, but also for being such a genuine friend. They’re rare to come by now a days but I know I’ve always got an ear to listen whenever I’ve got a problem! You’ve been so patient with me as I’ve taken on this career path and I seriously couldn’t thank you enough!
