We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Vice South Denver Metro REALTOR® and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla Vice, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I think when people think of traditional work/life balance it’s that they can be able to leave their work at work, and have nightstand weekends &, maybe a couple weeks off to “live their life”. I know for me, and many people during this COVID work from home aftermath, people have really started to think differently about how work relates to their life.

I am a mother of two young children, who has a lot of bills to pay, who wants a rewarding career, but also wants to be very present and involved with their children’s life. In the past if when I was working a 8-5 job, there was no flexibility to when I needed to live life – it was more like penalty. That needed to change.

I am now in a career where I can manipulate my schedule to fit around my life. I am not working less, just simply in a different way. It has helped my work life balance significantly, I am working towards being that successful career woman, while also being able to volunteer at my kids school, make them meals, go on trips, ski and hike on a weekday. It has been the best thing for me mentally to ever happen. The work grind is HARD, but they payoff and balance is wonderful.

What should our readers know about your business?
Almost 2 years ago I knew I was in need of a change. I was unhappy, stressed, and times were just uncertain in the spring of 2020. I made the decision to start the career I had been wanting for nearly 5 years. It was probably one of the hardest decisions to make, but also the absolute best decision I have ever made.

Going into a career like real estate, it takes a long time before you can hit that “successful “status. You need to build your business, learn how to run a business, promote yourself, learn the ins and outs, surround yourself with people in the industry, and even when you’re doing all those things it can take a couple years before things really start to pick up. I knew going into starting this new career and business that I wanted to do things differently.

When people would think of a realtor they would probably think of some stuffy person in a business suit with a fake attitude looking to make a commission. Now being in the industry for as long as I have, I knew that’s not what most realtors were ACTUALLY like, but they had that stereotype.

From the very beginning, I wanted to set myself apart. I’m here to build a relationship, make connections, and truly help people. I also didn’t want to create my business in the traditional ways. Nobody likes anybody knocking on their doors, nobody reads mailing postcards they get in the mail, and nobody’s paying attention to a billboard on the side of the road. Business is done in a different way especially in this generation, so I planned to use social media to build my business. When people go to my Instagram, they see me for exactly who I am, they are gaining knowledge from my Content, they’re learning my personality from the way that I present myself, and they know the person they see on that page is exactly the person they’re going to be working with.

When I work with someone, I’m using my own personal experience to help us through the process. My main clientele are people relocating either to Denver or making a cross country move. I’ve lived that life I know exactly the mistakes I made when I did it years ago, and I know how to make the process simple and positive for my clients. I am a very positive, outgoing, and excited person. So I do the best I can to keep things light, keep it entertaining, but also am here to get shit done. We’re not here to mess around, we’re here to find your home. Especially in a market as competitive as this, you want to be working with somebody that you enjoy, because the process takes a lot of time, and a lot of commitment.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Find my friends are in town, you KNOW I’m going to have a complete itinerary for them. Living in the location that I do, it’s very easy for us to get around to most places, so they’re probably going to get a sprinkling of the best of Denver in the surrounding areas.

If I can get them out to do a hike with me, one of my favorite chill places to go is deer Creek Canyon. It’s very mellow, not a crazy amount of incline, but still beautiful views! If they’re here in the winter, it’s definitely going to be beaver creek. It’s one of our favorite ski spots, has a great town, and is fairly easy to get to and not having to worry about switchbacks and passes. And you know if this person is a little bit more physically inclined, I’m going to try and talk them into climbing a 14er with me 😉

My thing I love to explore is coffee shops. I’m all about the coffee, give me all the pastries. I can never get enough! A few of my favorite spots are Corvus coffee in the DTC area, Wash Perk in Wash Park, Monk and Mongoose is always great because there are so many of them, and IT’S Coffee in Centennial has a delicious Turkish coffee!

If we’re looking for a day trip, I’m probably going to get them up to Idaho Springs. It was the first place my husband and I visited before we moved out here permanently, so it has a very nostalgic place in my heart! I just love walking around the town, exploring the breweries, plus the drive is super simple with stunning views. It’s the cutest little mining town!

Now of course, Because I am a realtor, anybody that comes to visit me is going to be asked 100 times if they want to walk through any new build homes. I love exploring new communities, walking through the brand new stunning designer homes, and it’s a simple past time that I like to do in my own time whenever I get the opportunity

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Of course my friends & family are my biggest forms of support & strength, but there are a few specific people that come to mind who have made the largest impact.

When it comes to growing my business, my neighbors have been my biggest cheerleaders! Your vibe attracts your tribe & my tribe is AMAZING.

I learned a lot about myself when it comes to business from my friend Adrianna Franklin, the owner of Color Coated Weddings & Events. In a past career life we worked together planning and organizing corporate events in the real estate industry. She helped me hone my strengths, how I could improve my weaknesses, and how to stand up for myself. She has been a constant support when I was having trouble figuring out what path to take, and how to confront my issues. She is the epitome of what it means to be a Boss and a constant role model on how to go after what I want. She now owns and runs a successful wedding & event coordination business AND mom to two twin toddlers. She is amazing!!

Learning how to better promote & market myself to attract the people I want to work with is all from my friend Jess Mueller. When it comes to social media and self promotion she just gets it. She is also one of the smartest people I know when it comes to anything PR and marketing related. She started a page from nothing and is now a super successful Instagram blogger and online store owner, all while being a mom to two young kids!
