We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylan Sharp and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaylan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I am a RN and postpartum doula. I am dedicated to supporting families in pregnancy and postpartum. I also am a mom to 4 young children. The thought process behind starting my own business was to be able to offer this service to families while also being able to care for my own family.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career started out in the cardiac cath lab. So not pregnancy and birth at all. I then transitioned into critical care here in Denver and then became a stay-at-home mom for a period of time. I was teaching my children while pregnant in the height of the pandemic and it was HARD. I decided to follow my passion which was pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I have seen first hand how difficult it is during these months and I wanted to offer more support to families. I think I am most proud of building something from the ground up. Making every decision for my business and learning from them! It has not been easy but it has been an adventure. I knew nothing about building a business so there were lots of trial and errors scenarios. I overcame the challenges by pushing on, making new contacts and receiving support from my family. I do this because I love it! I love educating families on what to expect in pregnancy, birth and postpartum. It lessens the mental load of the unknown. Parents enter into parenthood with confidence. I love the connections I have made with my families, especially the mamas. This can be such a difficult time in life and my goal is to help families thrive not just survive.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love going down to the RiNo district for drinks and dinner. Death and Co is a great bar. Also going ax throwing is a blast! Red Rocks is always a great time. I love going to concerts there. A stroll around Wash Park is beautiful especially this time of year. And I love going down to Cherry Creek for their Farmers Market and shopping.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother! She was instrumental is helping me see that this was something that I could do. We could do! I also run my business with my twin sister.
