We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelly Lunney and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelly, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Some of the habits that I have developed over the years include zero procrastination, if I think about it I force myself to do it so that there’s no excuse that I forgot about it later. I also have the habit of not quitting when I’m tired but stopping when I’m done. I work hard and play hard and always try to be nice in everything I do.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been doing hair for 10 years and it has been all about taking stepping stones towards your goal. I started off at cost cutters working minimum wage plus tip 40 hours a week and becoming the best I could be in that corporation.
Then to further my education to become a barber in 2015 and I was pregnant at the time and it was very challenging working 40 hours a week and finishing the program but I was super proud of myself when I was able to accomplish both. I have worked at several barbershop since then and have given everything into my job from the moment that I step in the door until the moment I walk out. I have learned to keep learning and never settle for good enough, to work towards being better. Always learn from your peers and keep an open and hungry mind.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would say we would have to hit up the principals office down of Tejon for some delicious coffee, pig Latin Cantina has amazing food for lunch. And to finish off the day going down into the rabbit hole for drinks and food. Manitou springs is one of my favorite places to spend the day for food, shopping and walking around. All the wonderful hiking trails, Cheyenne canyon in particular, Buena vista for some hot spring action.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One of the people that has always pushed me to my full potential is my husband. We always find the possibilities and encouraged each other to dream bigger. I don’t feel like I would be where I am today without his love and support.
My whole family is amazing and always drives me to do better. My children don’t know it yet but they are a huge motivational factor to everything I do, I want them to see that hard work pays off and to dream big and never give up. The Fred Factor is a book that has been a huge motivator, it talks about taking pride in everything you do and every job you have no matter how small it feels.
