We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsey Metzinger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsey, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe Bungalow 26 has been successful for a few reasons-I’ve always put emphasis on sourcing products that no one else in Wichita has and and that is combined with in store personal interaction.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
At a glance, I am a retail business owner. Behind the scenes I also produce a large number of products for the body and home that are sold online, within the shop and wholesaled to other shops and spas across the country. I always knew that the maker side of me would be a big part of the business. I did not know that it would eventually morph into wholesale and distribution. That has been a challenging but also really interesting part of how the business has grown.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Food, food, food. We would eat ALL the food. Lebanese at N&J Cafe, happy hour at Newport Grill, patio at the Monarch, food trucks and beer at the Hopping Gnome. We would hit Paramount Antique mall on West Kellogg-It’s HUGE. And a tour of all the local boutiques.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
That’s any easy one–Definitely the customers– I always say “We don’t sell things people need.” So when people come in to treat themselves or want to make someone’s day and they know they can do that in the shop, that’s what encourages me. My customers are very thoughtful and intentional people and that has shown me over the years how kind people are.
