We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Lee Wiebke and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra Lee, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Photography and travel, plus a good notebook. Travel makes me happy because it introduces me to new places and people and feels so different from everyday life. When I’m taking photos I lose track of time, my headaches diminish, and I’m so in the moment that everything else fades away. And who doesn’t love a good notebook? I keep track of everything in my journal and use it as another creative outlet.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
How I see through my camera lens is my art. I want it to be unique but also real, I want you to feel like you’re there. Which is why I only occasionally step in front of the camera. I want you to be transported and imagine it’s you standing where I’m standing, seeing what I’m seeing.

I feel like I’m still trying to make it professionally. It’s very slow going trying to make it and truthfully it’s sometimes more work than I have the capacity for after working so I can pay rent. But I try to give myself grace and take it one step at a time, even if that step feels tiny. There’s a saying/quote I love and it’s “your direction matters more than your speed”. Sometimes that means my perfectionism gets in the way, but it also often helps me through taking that next step.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
How fun! Ok, let’s see… -Rocky Mountain National Park
-day trip to Frisco; I just love Frisco’s main street, lake hikes, and overlooks
-hikes in Chautauqua Park and around NCAR
-brunch at Dushanbe Tea House
-shopping on Pearl Street, especially the Boulder Bookstore and Two Hands Paperie
-drinks at License No. 1 and Bitter Bar
-Denver Botanical Gardens
-Confluence Park/Union Station; maybe take a ride on the Denver Trolley if it’s summer

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents, first and foremost for all the love and support they’ve given me. My mom actually asked me why I didn’t pursue photography when I was 24 and I didn’t listen for years (whoops). Honestly, every person who has told me my photography was more than just average and wanted to see what photos I’d taken on my travels, every single one meant something and still does.
