We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendyl Spriggs and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendyl, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
“If you aren’t doing what you love you should choose another profession”. I think this advice has good intentions but is slightly flawed. Every filmmaker/creative/person has their own journey and some people much like myself aren’t in the position to quit their day job to pursue their passion. However, that doesn’t mean that you cannot do what you love in your spare time. I personally have used every spare moment that I have in between my 9-5 to slowly build my business over the past 2 years and I have zero shame about that. In my humble opinion, as long as you are building something for your future and finding joy in the present you’ve already won.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a filmmaker who specializes in wedding/elopements, but I also love to dabble in commercials and music videos (music videos happened to be my first love). I would say that what separates me from others is how I string moments together and transform even the simplest scene into something cinematic. I never take for granted the fact that often in my profession I am capturing moments that happen once in a lifetime. So often weddings are a blur for the bride and groom, which is why I take great care to catch every little detail that they may miss, while still capturing the larger-than-life moments that are important to them. I am always humbled by the fact that I get to document the biggest day of people’s lives and be among their closest friends and family as they celebrate. I truly believe that I have one of the greatest jobs in the world!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is this really good Italian spot downtown called Osteria Marco and it is right across the street from a great speakeasy called Green Russell. Those spots together would make for a really great night out.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my wife Diana who also happens to be an amazing photographer! Diana was my introduction into the visual arts and we still work together to this day. Her website is https://www.flordecampo.co/ and she specializes in Elopements, Weddings and Maternity photography.
