We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiki Gonzales and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kiki, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am from Colorado born and raised, I grew up in Commerce City. My mom was a very hard working single mother who always managed to make things work when times were rough. She had a ton of help from her mother and father raising us, especially when she decided to go back to school to become a medical assistant. Those were very long days for her as she would work full time and do evening classes. I definitely have my work ethic from her, I was also motivated to do more as I got older. I wanted to be financially stable. I started my first summer job at the age of 14 and have been working since. After high school I tried “The college thing” knowing damn well I didn’t know what exactly I wanted to do. A few years after, I decided on a career in esthetics. I wanted something I knew I would be happy in but still make money, because you know, Cash Rules Everything Around Me (word to wu-tang).

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Licensed Esthetician in the state of Colorado and I am currently focusing on eyelash extensions. I went into the field mostly wanting to focus on acneic skin because of my own struggles with acne. In school when we were learning eyelash extensions I HATED IT. I have learned to love it and it has taught me a lot of patience. I’m still a newbie in the industry but I take in any thing I can to better my craft. Nothing great ever comes easy, I financially struggled to get into school but I made it happen and I took my courses very seriously and completely dedicated myself to it. I am in my first year of having my own LLC, Eccentric Esthetics. I’ve always felt a little different in many things I do, hence eccentric meaning unconventional and slightly strange. I move unapologetically through out life. Along the way I’m learning that; -not everyone is going to like you
-patience is everything
-the learning never stops.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The botanical gardens when its nice outside, its so pretty and calming just walking through all the plants and flowers. A concert at red rocks is always nice, if it is 70 degrees and above! Gallo Italian Supper Club and Bakery in Englewood is the Mother F*****g spot, such amazing food!! An ideal night out would be at Charlie’s Denver, off Colfax!! Such a fun and open crowd not to mention the performers are always amazing!!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Family and friends who have supported me along my journey and have let me practice on them. My teachers and peers at Elevate Salon institute Westminster! My first job being licensed, Urban Squeeze, Rachael & Meta who taught me 99% of my hands on training. My cousin/mentor (I would say) Tayler who is a boss babe owner of Tailored Glo. Most importantly my mother for birthing me, loving me, and supporting me.
