We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Randall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kim, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In 2004 I moved to Colorado from Washington State with my special needs daughter. I quickly learned there were several agencies offering numerous resources for special needs children, but unfortunately these agencies did not communicate amongst themselves. I felt stuck, unable to navigate the services my daughter desperately needed to live and thrive. I decided at that time, I was going to create a new system.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My story begins in 2005, shortly after moving to Colorado, when I was handed a community resource book and left to navigate the world of special needs alone. That was the moment I decided something needed to be done to change the healthcare system for this vulnerable population. I graduated nursing school in 2008, and immediately realized to offer free healthcare and make an impact I was going to need to become a physician. I started on this journey when in 2010 my daughter passed away followed by a severe back injury in 2014. My dreams of being a physician were curtailed and I was left wondering how I was going to fulfill my vision.
In 2016, I met my business mentors who guided me and helped me realize another way of making my vision a reality. Today, I am excited to have a clear path to create a free healthcare network for special needs children. Currently, KENNA Nursing Services offers nurse case management, care coordination, relocation assistance, advocacy, skilled nursing, private duty nursing, and respite care for one low monthly fee. The difference between KENNA Nursing Services and other case management agencies is we are a partner. We come along side you and help carry the burden. We do not just give you a list of resources. We guide you through them making the necessary phone calls to get your family connected and services started quickly and efficiently. All our services are provided in the comfort of your home where we can truly connect and understand your family’s unique needs.
As we look towards the future, KENNA Nursing Services will be supported by The KENNA Foundation to provide funding to begin offering services free of charge. We plan on starting preliminary services in January 2023.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Colorado Springs and the Front Range is an amazing place to visit and live. The view of Pikes Peak never gets old and a visit to the summit is a must whether driving or riding the COG railway. Everyone needs a high altitude donut. I have always enjoyed a hike up the Manitou Incline followed by visiting the penny arcade and an ice cream cone from Patsy’s. An evening out at the movies is the best at The Roadhouse with an order of mozzarella sticks and a Bailey’s gelato shake. There is always fun to be had at Whiskey Baron to hang out with friends playing poker and dancing. A drive through the Phantom Canyon is a must in the fall with a stop in Cripple Creek. A winter trip is never complete without heading to the high country for snow boarding or taking in the holiday lights at Vail and Breckenridge.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Over the years their have been several people instrumental in my success! First, all glory goes to my heavenly Father who birthed this dream in me. Without my faith and His guidance, I would not be where I am today. My boys, JW and Colbey, have always believed in me and been a source of encouragement. The members of World Wide Group continue to be an unwavering support system, and their mentorship continues to help me grow personally and as an entrepreneur. Finally, I want to thank numerous small business owners here in Colorado Springs who inspire and push me daily to step outside my comfort zone: Danielle McCarthy, Flip Aguilara, Frank Sinclair, Ron Young, Lisa Sinnott, Derek Enslow, Julie Bishop, Kesti Suggs and many others.
