We had the good fortune of connecting with King Asante and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi King Asante, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always wanted to put my creativity, talent, and education to use in a form of content online! Starting a small business of mine has really helped me expand my ideas and what I want to do. I want to be able to elevate other voices that often get dismissed and bring up topics that get pushed to the side along with entertaining. I think that was important for me to start my own business to make sure that I can own my ideas and content and have room to grow.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a business owner and creative in the influencer space, I break down entertainment stories across social media! I think what sets me apart is my consistency and my ability to start conversations. I started on Tik Tok in November of 2019 and fast forward to now, I have over 1.4 million followers, my own show on Snapchat, and have been to many red carpets in Hollywood! Some the challenges I faced was being consistent. I started in 2019 and for the past 3 years I have been posting on social media. There were times were I faced hate comments and was struggling with my mental health. Throughout this time, I started attending college in 2019 and will graduate in the spring of 2023. I always felt like I had very little time but learn to manage my time well. I was able to find healthy cope with hate comments along with my mental health. Through all this, I learned that I can do what I put my mind to and that I have found my passion. I want people pursue what they want in life and be able to embrace themselves. The only reason why I am in this position is because I embraced who I am and things that I am in too.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am currently living in San Diego. I would definitely take people to Sunset Cliffs, Downtown San Diego at night, and Sea Port village. Some of my favorite places to eat are Canes and Tajima! I would also take them to the beach and on hikes!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my parents for pushing me in a direction to pursue being a content creator and business owner! I also want to give shoutout to my current management team at DyeSci for believing in me and helping me start this business.
