We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristin Kohl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristin, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My ultimate goal with starting my photography business was to eventually work completely for myself and be able to do what I love at the same time.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art and passion is photography. I have enjoyed doing photography from about the age of fourteen. While I enjoy doing many different types of photography my two favorite genres would have to be (and yes – they are completely opposite) real estate/architecture and motorsports! I am obsessed with photographing homes, condos, properties etc and then dirtbikes and snowmobiles! I love the challenge and artistic elements of photographing houses and the excitement of photographing action sports. I also really enjoy family photos, engagement photos, products, food… all sorts really.

When I am hired to do a job I do it whole heartedly. You can tell how excited I am about shooting the photos because it is truly doing what I love for work. I make sure communication is top priority to make sure all parties are happy with the finished work.

I live in a small valley so I would attribute any success I have to the community I live in – word of mouth is really wonderful for me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a summer person so I would definitely have a friend visit during the summer months!

Some of my favorite local restaurants we would go to would be Zheng Asian Bistro in Glenwood Springs, and Wild Sage in Eagle! I can’t get enough of those two restaurants. Sushi is my favorite food and the healthy options at Wild Sage are just too good.

For fun activities, I would plan a day trip to Glenwood Springs – go to the hot springs, amusement park, and end the day at one of the many amazing restaurants in downtown Glenwood. Another day I would plan a float from State Bridge down to Two Bridges – nothing beats a nice day on the river in the ducky. I would most definitely plan a day hike from Fancy Pass to Missouri Lakes Pass loop. It’s ridiculously beautiful and great exercise – I try to do it at least once every summer. One last activity I would do is spend a day at the Dry Lake Motocross park. It’s an awesome motocross facility right across the highway from where I live and it’s always fun to go up there and hang, take pics, and watch people dirtbike.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would not be where I am today without my friends and local community giving me a chance and helping spread the word about my business – thank you
