We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyle Shirley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kyle, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Simply put, I lead a team that keeps their promises. We do what we say we are going to do. In construction, we have found there are a lot of empty promises and methods of maneuvering out of responsibilities. For us, when we let a customer or vendor know that we intend to do something, we honor that promise, and we give it our all.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am extremely proud of the business we have built so far at Sol Vista Roofing. At present we are two years into our journey, and have already established solid relationships with property owners, property managers, and others that keep us busy with repeat business and referrals. We have earned some of these fantastic client relationships because we do things slightly differently than our rivals. For example, we are a “repair-first” roofing contractor. If we can save a client’s budget with a roof repair and extend the life of the existing roof, we will suggest that option even if the client believes they need an entire new roof. This puts the customer’s needs first, and builds trust. Also, we give back to the community through our partnership with local non-profits. We are proud to donate to great organizations, like Food Bank of the Rockies, WeeCycle, and Wish of a Lifetime for every new roof we install.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have lived all over the Denver metro area and love taking friends on tours when they come to visit. There are a few can’t-miss stops, such as a day walking around LODO and Union Station neighborhoods. Denver’s urban core is a great district with entertainment, food, art, and fun. Finish the day there with a Rockies game as the cherry on top. Another day could be spent on a day trip to red rocks to see some of nature’s beauty. There are great nature trails nearby to get a little hike in as well. I also love taking friends to first-Friday art crawl’s on South Santa Fe, live music at smaller venues like the Bluebird on East Colfax, and ice skating at Evergreen Lake.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I received such an extraordinary amount of encouragement to pursue entrepreneurship from a lot of friends and family. When I launched Sol Vista Roofing, I was mid-career in corporate finance and banking, and doing well. So it was a risk to take a left turn towards construction entrepreneurship. I think my biggest encouragement came from my parents, who have been small business owners for decades and know the struggle well. Their support of my idea made it easier for me to take the plunge.
