We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyle Voska and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kyle, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
This has been in the making for years now and I’m so grateful it finally came to fruition. I’m a PGA Teaching Professional who’s been teaching golf for a living at The Links Golf Course in Highlands Ranch, CO for the past 11 years. I have a very loyal following of students including one of the largest junior and ladies academies in the state. Over the winter months, it was tough finding consistent places to rent out and, like many other seasonal outdoor sports, it’s important to be able to offer year-round options which enhances my teaching business, but also keeps families/students active over the winter months. Additionally, I have 3 other full-time PGA Teaching Professionals who teach with me so it’s great to be able to offer them a home to teach year round now.

Before opening The Divot around last Thanksgiving, I’ve always imagined how cool it would be to have an indoor place for my students to enjoy year round. Additionally, it’s open to the public which allows our local communities the opportunity to continue golfing even when the weather isn’t so kind.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The Divot is an indoor golf facility with 4 full simulator powered by Uneekor and GSP software. The technology is fantastic and very consistent allowing golfers to improve their game or just having fun playing a round with their friends. Opening an indoor facility has been a dream of mine for 5+ years and it finally came to fruition with the help of my business partner, Tommy Harris. While it was challenging, it wasn’t overwhelming and I have a very large following of golfers who takes lessons and classes which reduced a lot of the risk. The Divot also offers Callaway club fitting with Tara Morris, our Certified Callaway fitter, lessons, junior and ladies classes, leagues, unlimited memberships and more.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ironically, while I opened an indoor golf facility, I love being outdoors. The first day, I’d take my friend (and 2 Golden Retrievers) to Staunton State Park for a day hike to one of the beautiful summits there. It’s only a 45-minute drive, but it feels like you’re completely in the mountains when you’re there. For the 2nd day, depending on the season, we’d either go golfing at The Ridge in Castle Pines or ski at Keystone. For day 3, we’d go visit Garden of the Gods in the morning then Uber up to Denver late afternoon to try some different local breweries. Day 4, we’d head up to Breckenridge to tour the town/area and eat at The Canteen which has one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. And, on our final day, we would visit another local park, Corwina, for a hike then attend a concert that evening at either Red Rocks or Fiddlers Green. We’re so lucky to live in Colorado!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I’ve been very fortunate to call The Links Golf Course my home over the past 11 years. The owners, Jason Brandt and Rob Hunt, have been so kind and also have a great understanding on how to be a successful business while respecting me while I run my business there. Additionally, the support from all of the families that are in my program has been awesome and much appreciated.
