We had the good fortune of connecting with L.N. White and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi L.N., can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my business was simple, to fill a void. As a nurse, I’ve witnessed people of color (mostly women) be disregarded, abandoned, and unheard by those in the medical profession. As a woman of color, I can relate all too well to this experience and I chose to start a business that helps the global majority, especially women of color, feel heard. I aim to gently and compassionately guide my clients to feel empowered and to advocate for themselves so that they have an opportunity to have the most positive birth or end of life experience they set out to have.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Lighthouse Effect LLC was birthed after I had been in nursing for almost 15 years. During this time, it was painfully obvious how people of color (mainly women of color) were being treated in the medical field. Whether giving birth, during end of life while of hospice, or battling chronic diseases, there was a continued pattern of mistreatment that I noticed would only surface with patients of color. This pattern was one of neglect, disregard, and dismissiveness. It was challenging even for me as nurse of color working in a field that I did not feel 100% accepted in. After witnessing and experiencing this, I decided to step away from the traditional nursing career and start Lighthouse Effect LLC. The mission is to gracefully and gently guide souls into this world and help to peacefully guide those transitioning beyond out while also empowering and reassuring birthing persons, partners, caregivers, and everyone in between that a positive, serene, and exhilarating evolution is attainable. It is possible to achieve the ultimate birthing, dying, or life changing experience when we are surrounded by caring, knowledgeable, and compassionate guidance. This is possible no matter what you look like, where you come from, or how much money you make. Founding Lighthouse Effect LLC has not been without its challenges. As a black entrepreneur in a conservative city, the odds of success are certainly stacked up against me, but to no avail. With encouragement, mentorship, and advice from other business owners all from various backgrounds and a loving and supportive family, I continue to push forward. I continue to focus on the good that the universe places in my path on a daily basis. I choose to focus on the positive energy that I put into the world and my clients that trust me to provide them evidenced based information allowing them to make the most informed decisions as they transition through some of life’s most monumental moments.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First we would have to grab coffee from Drip Queen Coffee in the Chapel Hills Mall For margaritas, we’d visit My Neighbor Felix located at the Promenade Shops at Briargate
We’d spend some time downtown for sure having brunch at Toastique
Luxe Daiquiri Lounge would be a must for good music, dancing, and daiquiris.
If it’s a beautiful day outside, we would do some hiking at Helen Hunt and take some gorgeous pics.
For dinner, Cowboy Star is a must as well as Four by Brother Luck Downtown Colorado Springs

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
