We had the good fortune of connecting with Lance Hughes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lance, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The inspiration behind starting my own business was watching my sister succeed in starting her own business (BeFoodllc). I was already training kids one on one, but once I knew I had a consistent clientele, I knew this could be really be something.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m really excited about continuing to help kids thrive in a sport that I grew up playing. Basketball was my first love and I always wanted to give back to the youth through sports. I currently work as a federal security contractor for the Department of Homeland Security. Once my workload slowed down, I was looking for opportunities to coach at the club/AAU level. I was hired on as a coach for the Elevation Flyers in 2022. That gave me a head start in getting clients for my business. I never offered to train until someone asked me if I would ever be interested in doing it. One day I sent a mass email to the club parents offering my service and it grew from there. The main lesson I learned from this business is that not only are you a trainer, but you are a role model to these kids. I want my brand(Jnftrainingllc) to represent hard work and dedication can get you where you want to go in life.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give flowers to my mom and also the director of Elevation Flyers Matt Barnett. My mom always knew I could do something if I put my mind to it and she never discouraged me when I failed or had a misstep. I have to thank my director for multiple reasons. First he hired me after I took a hiatus from the coaching world and also allows me to use the basketball social house as a training spot when getting gym space is the hardest part about basketball training.
