We had the good fortune of connecting with Lance Kittel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lance, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I saw a niche market that has capacity for creativity. The more I pushed into new directions, the more positively my following responded. Eventually, I settled on a design that was uniquely me, while still fitting the identity of the larger picture.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My fly rods are unmistakably me. It took try after try to find the style that fit me most. Marrying functionality with creativity and an artistic approach is difficult; there are many trials needed to settle on that sweet spot. It took me years of refining, pushing boundaries, and learning new approaches to get where I am today.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love taking friends out to low key bars and quick bites. But let’s be honest, the mountains are my home. I love planning hikes and explorations for friends. Alpine lakes are an awesome day trip, and some aren’t too far away.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Big shouts to all of the creative minds pushing the elements of what is considered a “fly fishing rod”. The angling community is awesome. Also, tons of love for my family and friends who have helped me reach my dreams.
