We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Griffin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
At the time of starting my own business, it was 2018 and I was lost. I had graduated college and began working in my field, but realized that it wasn’t meant for me. I was discouraged, confused, and couldn’t imagine living that way for the rest of my life. I started using candle making, jewelry making, and other handmade works as a creative outlet for my stress & depression. I quickly realized that it brought me so much joy – and sparked an entrepreneurial flame inside me! My dad was an entrepreneur his entire life, so I think I naturally had that attitude as well, but I didn’t know it was inside me at the time.
I was supported deeply by my fiancée to walk away from that 9-5, and start my own journey. Without his encouragement I’m not sure I would have done it. I was afraid of financial struggle, unsure of where to go next, or if people would even like what I make! Overall, I was terrified of failure.
I had never been a “popular” girl, or even very confident. I was afraid to put myself out there as a brand, a business, and it took me a long time to figure out what I wanted to stand for and how to use my voice. I built my customer base by just being me – and it amazed me that so many people enjoyed my content and products! I also began my psychic reading services about a year into my business, and from there created real bonds with people who were willing to be vulnerable with me. I truly believe that the right people will be brought to you at the right time, to help you elevate and grow as a person & business owner. That in itself has been an amazing journey.
Every day I’m grateful for that decision to chase after my dreams. It hasn’t always been easy and I still often times feel like I don’t know what I’m doing! I don’t think that any entrepreneur has it all figured out. It’s all risk, a little luck, and at the end of the day…blood, sweat & tears to build your empire. Four years in, and I feel like I’m just getting started!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My business is spiritual-based! I am a reiki healer. psychic reader, and shaman-in-training, which plays a big role in what I want to put into the world. I am proud to be a person who is always striving to empower others, through my creations and my words. I truly believe that everyone comes into this world with an inner magic. Throughout life, we tend to lose our spark or become blind to it – so I set out to use my business as a way to help people connect back to their inner, most magical selves. It was a bit scary at first to start sharing my spiritual beliefs, and even promote my business that way. I live in a small state where I wasn’t sure if my way of life would be accepted – but once I began searching, I found that there are so many people in my community who hold the same values and interests!
I learned that if you just stick to what you believe in, the right people will find you. Put out the energy you want to receive in the world! Never be afraid to speak your truth and help others do the same.
My brand is a love-child of creative passions, spirituality, and a childlike wonder of the world & all its magic. I’m happy to just be myself, have room to grow, and help others rise up along with me!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Living in a small beach town, you of course want to see…the beach! There are also great lesser known trails that are great spots to connect with nature too. I personally love going to small crystal shops in Rehoboth, the local coffee shop/ book store “Drifting Grounds” in my town, the “Prickly Gal” boutique that is a woman-owned small business, and the metaphysical shop I work at, “Stone & Sage” which has amazing products and is a safe space to learn and ask questions!
There are great places in Delaware that are small businesses and support local!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shout out to…
All of the amazing gals I’ve met in the entrepreneur community! You inspire me and push me to be better always.
My fiancée for believing in me and listening to all my rants of ideas! You are my rock.
My spiritual sisters who have empowered me, teach me, and help me grow so I can help others.
And most of all, my boys, for giving me my driving force. I hope you always see that we can make our dreams come true, with hard work & love!
