We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have been doing photography professionally for about ten years! I was gifted my first camera when I was in high school, and continued to study graphic design, photography, and marketing in college. Photography for me has always just been a “hobby that pays well”. Something that would fill my time on the weekends and keep me busy once I got home from work during the week. A few years ago, a good friend asked me to shoot her wedding. While I had been doing photography for some time, I had never done a wedding. However, she didn’t mind and said that I would be great. Her wedding day came and went, and I had the time of my life! I LOVE attending weddings in general, being able to witness two people who are madly in love come together with their friends and family is just something so special. But now, getting to see the whole day come together and capture some unforgettable moments is a job that I never take for granted. After that wedding, I had a serious conversation with my then boyfriend, now husband, about transitioning from a full-time job to being self employed. With the love and support from him, friends, and family, I am now a full time wedding photographer. People say that if you love your job, you will never have to work a day in your life. Well… I don’t ever think that I have to go to work. I GET to go to work, and love celebrating so many beautiful couples on their journey to marriage!

I strive to create the best client experience and provide the best photographs of unforgettable moments. I want to be able to serve my clients to the best of my abilities not only when taking wedding day pictures, but for all the in between. From the initial consult call, to preparing a custom wedding day timeline, to helping bustle a dress… I always tell my couples the on wedding day, you will spend the most time with your new spouse, and with your photographer! I love to capture the candid and special moments throughout the day so that my couples are able to cherish them forever!

Starting a small business was definitely not easy! I was in an unusual circumstance where as soon as I became self employed full time, I got engaged and we decided to start building a house. Needless to say it was incredibly difficult to not spend all day on Pinterest dreaming about my wedding or our future house. Time management is something I still work on and will always be working on. But reaching my goals and becoming successful are two things that I am committed too.

I want the world to know that I am out there! I have been in business for just under a year and really want to reach my ideal clients and serve them well! I consider myself to be someone couples can be comfortable around and available to capture some great images while having a good time with a new friend.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If anyone were to visit the Northern Colorado area, I would definitely recommend Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park.  There is some incredible scenery and great hiking for all types.  Just down the mountain is Fort Collins which offers some great local restaurants and breweries.  One of my favorite spots to hang out is Breckenridge Brewery.  There is always a great crowd and usually always a food truck.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout my husband, Ty! He has been my number one supporter through this whole journey. Through transitioning from full-time, to part-time, to being self-employed, he has always encouraged me to do my best, show people my work, and most importantly my personality. I don’t think that I would be where I am today without him! Thank you Ty for being my number one fan! I love you!
