Meet Leah Sahhar | Homeschool Mom

We had the good fortune of connecting with Leah Sahhar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Our family wanted to start a children’s entrepreneurial event, where all kids in the community could create and sell their own special products. We wanted to give kids a platform to learn entrepreneurial skills, personal finance, marketing and business economics, and life skills that will carry them into their hobbies and career paths.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Both my husband and I are children of immigrants. Our parents worked very hard, established their own businesses, and passed on to us individually a love for business and entrepreneurship. The United States offers so many opportunities for business success. We have passed these same values and principles to our children. We want to give children in our Colorado community a chance to practice the skills of personal finance and entrepreneurship.
The journey to this point hasn’t been easy. We have had high highs and low lows in our careers. Chad is a Real Estate Broker, and juggles a fluctuating economy continually. I am a licensed Colorado teacher, which at first, didn’t seem to connect to the business world. But over time, we started to see how all our life experiences are pieces to a puzzle that contribute to each project, such as MakerMinds Market.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We truly believe in the values of Colorado Springs and all its surrounding communities. While it has so much natural beauty, it also reflects the patriotic virtue of the US military forces. And so, if I were to plan a Colorado Springs tour, I would take them to Pike’s Peak, Garden of the Gods, the forest trails, and beautiful bike and hike trails.
We’d show off the AF Academy and military memorials.
For good eats, we’d hit several restaurants in Manitou Springs, the local carniceria, and Josh n Johns Ice Cream. 🙂

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When it comes to a children’s market, we assume that the children are the creators, builders, and designers of the products they are selling. At the same time, we realize that their Parents, Mentors, Coaches and Teachers play a major role in getting them to the finish line, which the actual market day. Sometimes, the adults do the heavy lifting of financial loans for new vendors, multiple trips to the craft stores, time and energy to help guide the children to success. We are also thankful to our visionary community leaders who donate space and resources to keep our costs minimal for the vendor families. Without their support, this beautiful event would not be possible.
