We had the good fortune of connecting with Leo Dunn & Matt Danitz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leo Dunn & Matt Danitz, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We had always wanted to start something of our own. Over the past 20 years there was idea after idea that got thrown around but nothing ever stuck. When we finally had this idea, we knew it was a winner. Ultimately, we got tired of a construction industry with a culture of unaccountability and the tendency to blame other people when things go wrong. We wanted to bring a different way of doing business to exterior work that was built around communication and trust. We are huge fans of the local band, The String Cheese Incident, and decided to name our company after one of their songs. Road Home Exteriors was born.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are definitely putting a lot of miles on our trucks! Whether it’s running material to a job site or serving a customer in Boulder and then in Parker, we cover a lot of ground. It has not been easy but hard work never is. What has made this a great partnership is that we have actually worked many jobs together. Over that time we have learned each other‘s strengths and weaknesses which really helps us to succeed. Anyone who is going to start a business as a partnership should really know the other person well so they know exactly what to expect. We have been friends and coworkers for over 20 years and that is where our success lies.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One thing that is nice about this industry is that the entire city is your office. When we need to get some work done on the computer we will sit down at a local bar or restaurant. The best burgers in town are definitely at the Monkey Barrel in Sunnyside. Matt really loves his bbq so we will go to Post Oak on Tennyson for that. As a local business ourselves we make an effort to spend our money at fellow local businesses. That’s usually where the best food is anyways.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our family and friends are at the top of the list. They have supported us and provided feedback along the way. And in a strange way our first job in the industry was a huge influence on us. It was a local painting company in Greeley. That is where we got our first taste of the construction industry. Since then we have explored different areas and learned a lot of lessons along the way.
