We had the good fortune of connecting with Lillian Malcolm and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lillian, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I always believed I could find a better way to share my love of horses with young riders who were in a similar financial position as me. This sport favors the wealthy, but the horses don’t follow suit. They favor those who treat them well and understand them. That is an art I don’t want to be lost over time.

What should our readers know about your business?
Link Equestrian was formed to offer an affordable and competitive place for riders of all levels to learn and grow with their equine partners. Unfortunately, the equine industry as a whole has taken some tough turns over the last couple decade which lead to pricing some out of the amazing sport, and some unkind methods to help our horse-friends. We want to show riders how to be horsemen again, and work with the animal, and learn their language in order to achieve the goals at hand. Horses teach us some amazing things, and they deserve the same trust and respect from humans.

I was also raised to be pretty competitive, which really helped me grow and learn how to persevere and achieve my own goals. That is something that I try and give ot my riders as well. When I was growing up I couldn’t afford a lot of the horse world, and I had some special people mentor me and help me regardless of my finances. My biggest goal in life is to be that to my riders– help them love and learn horses not based on money, but on connection and work ethic.

I am very proud of the young riders we have today, and the horses we have built from the ground up. We are creating a name from nothing, and proving it’s worth daily. I’m very proud of what my partner and I have overcome thus far, and what we continue to strive towards. People are consistently asking us how we do it, and commenting on our amazing partnership.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being born and raised in Colorado, I know a lot of the local outdoorsy places people tend to be drawn to. A favorite of mine though is the local restaurants by the boulder creek. Nothing beats a picnic and some water time with friends and family! If the timing worked out, we would also go check out one of the amazing outdoor concert venue in Colorado as well such as Fiddlers Green or Red Rocks!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Skyline Stables is run by an amazing family that deserves recognition for how hard they work to keep their equine and human clients safe and happy and thriving each and every day.
