We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindi West and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindi, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Back in mid 2016 I worked for another cleaning company that I was unhappy at. Steve and I were talking one night, and we thought if I’m out making someone else’s customers happy I can make my own happy! That night we came up with Hot Mess Cleaning. We spent hours going door to door with our fliers to let the community know about us. In December we finally got our first call for a clean! Steve went out at midnight the night before and spent the little money we had at the time on a vacuum so we could do our clean.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We started Hot Mess Cleaning in 2016. Steve and I both had other jobs while we were trying to get started because we still had to pay bills and feed our family. We built our company from the ground up. When we started, we thought how are we going to get the word out about us. We spent 50+ hours just going door to door and leaving a flier that we had made on people’s doors. We got our First call in December of 2016. I quit my job in mid 2017 to focus solely on Hot Mess Cleaning as we were growing enough, I didn’t need the extra income. We started getting busy enough I needed help cleaning so my mom became my partner. In 2018 I got pregnant and had hyperemesis gravidarum. I couldn’t move without getting sick, so Steve was working 3am-10am at King Soopers then coming home and going to cleans to keep the business going. In October of 2018 I was about 3 months pregnant, and Steve had to go to Minnesota to have open heart surgery. After his surgery we were stable enough for him to quit King Soopers and do cleans with us. At that time, we had also hired our first employee that wasn’t family! In 2020 we had the pandemic; we were not considered essential. We both started working at a little convivence store that was less that 2 minutes away from our home. Needless to say, we definitely had our challenges and I wanted to give up so many times, but Steve wouldn’t let me. I am so thankful for his drive and motivation. When we were able to open again, we took who was comfortable enough for us to come back and we handed out more fliers! We were able to rebuild our clientele. We are partners with Cleaning for A Reason, which means we provide free cleaning for cancer patients going under treatment. In 2021 and 2023 we won 3rd place in best of noco for house cleaning. We now have 6 full time employees who help us rock this business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of our favorite places is Gnome Road in Red Feather. We try to make a trip there at least once a year. We have 3 kids we are usually trying to tire out, so we spend a lot of time in Denver at the malls, zoo and butterfly pavilion.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would like to dedicate this to all our amazing clients and employee’s. Without them we would not be where we are or have a successful business.
