We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Burke and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always loved creating!Whether it’s painting an old nightstand or redoing a vase someone doesn’t want anymore.I always have my eyes on things with “good bones” and what they could be. I was home last year with nowhere to be,no sports events to drive kids to and Schitt to Shine was born!I had heard of a new antique store in Littleton called Old Crows and it was the perfect fit for a booth with all my Schitt! I find things from ARC or Goodwill, pieces people don’t want anymore. I take “Schitt” and make it shine! It’s been a huge cup filler for me,I can create and try new techniques and best of all I get to meet new people!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One thing that sets me apart from others is no piece is too big or small. I see something with good bones and I have to give life back to it. An unpainted, scuffed up box,I can turn it into a rustic planter with greenery..catching your attention..becoming a centerpiece instead of trash. No piece is off limits…well..maybe chairs with fabric…but its not a hard no! I did have pockets full of doubt at first! Would my stuff even be cared about or wanted…and I’m so glad I just tried!I would have really kicked myself if I hadn’t even tried! I think the biggest thing I have gotten from starting Schitt to Shine is one thing leads to another, one person, one vase, one dollhouse, each piece has lead me to here. I want people to know one step..just one…is all you need. Quit comparing your talent to Cindy down the street. The second you allow that negativity to have a seat at your table….your drive changes. Focus on your “schitt” and all that energy will go into a brighter shine in the end!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Old Crows Antiques! They have Turntable food truck out front with some of the best pulled pork I’ve ever had, don’t tell my husband! Then you head in to Old Crows and there is a root bear bar full of every flavor your taste buds ever dreamt of! After that delightful treat you walk the isles of incredible booths filled with antiques, repurposed furniture, childhood trinkets you forgot about,I mean every isle is a soul awakening! Old Crows is full of people with stories!Everyone chats and shares stories about their booths and pieces they have found..please..just go walk one isle and tell me you weren’t smiling the whole time,it’s just a feel good place.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I feel like redoing furniture is in my genes. My grandmother use to fix up furniture and I keep one of her pieces close by just as a reminder to keep going…keep filling my creative cups..or buckets..lol! Old Crows Antiques has been an enormous part of this vision continuing!I meet new people everyday that have new ideas or pieces for me to try and it just keeps getting bigger for me. Recently I redid a dollhouse and that opened doors to this world of all tiny things that I never knew existed! The furniture community on Instagram is always uplifting and positive, with each step this adventure just keeps reenergizing my drive.
