We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Milazzo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
There is so much value in the early morning. I truly believe that the way you begin your day sets you up for either success or failure. I personally love waking up early, having a greens drink, plotting out my day and practicing some form of movement (riding the bike, hitting the gym, or yoga). Even if the rest of my day doesn’t go as planned, I can always fall back on the fact that I made time for myself in the early morning.

Practicing gratitude is another habit that makes me feel successful no matter what success metric may or may not say. Gratitude is one thing that’s free and has the same effect on everyone. I like taking a few minutes to find something new that I’m grateful for and why. When you’re an artist or creative, it’s quite easy to fall into a pit of complacency or self-doubt. Taking a few moments to define the difference in your life and work NOW as opposed to where you began is an automatic happiness-booster.

Gratitude for what IS is essential for manifesting what will be. I credit manifestation just as much as hard work for allowing me the life I have today. Seriously, I spent hours and hours during the pandemic lockdown writing out the exact life that I wanted for myself. Truly believing that you deserve the life you want is the first step to obtaining it. The next step is the work it takes to get you there. So keeping my writings close and believing that I could do it motivated me to work on my music every day. Days passed and my life began to change for the better. I still continue the work three years later, but with even heftier goals in mind.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m so passionate about making music that allows people to feel free. I want people to come to my set and be able to forget their worries for a little while. My journey has not been easy, but I think that’s added so much value to the experience. It wasn’t until recently that I was able to focus on music full-time. Making time outside of working hours to hone in on your craft is a true test of whether or not you actually want to do it. And I did. There was a time when I sought the rave every weekend so that I could immerse myself in the music and find this feeling of safety and openness on the dance floor. It’s a place where you’re free to be yourself without judgment. The best thing I can do is to offer that to other people… to create a space where they can heal.
The “brand” that I want to project into the world is simply defined by who I am. I’m a producer/DJ who’s learned a lot from her experiences. I’ve learned that taking care of each other in the rave community should come first. That’s why I try to incorporate so many healthy habits and lifestyle tips within my brand. I want to seem like the cool Italian rave mom who really wants everyone to be able to rave together forever. That’s just me, Lindsay Milazzo.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start our weekend right at Temple Nightclub. The club features all of the best touring DJs, and I really love the atmosphere. On Saturday morning I would take them to refuel at Just Be kitchen. My first time visiting Denver, I returned to the restaurant twice in one weekend because I couldn’t get enough. We could hike around Red Rocks and workout inside the amphitheater. I love running the stairs and feeling the sun on my face. Knowing my best friends, they would thoroughly enjoy stopping along ‘the green mile’, and of course as a good host I would oblige…
I would cross my fingers that there would be a DJ at Meow Wolf Saturday night, but even if there’s not a show, the venue itself is highly entertaining and a must-see!
Sunday would start with an insanely good cup of coffee courtesy of Kaladi Coffee roasters.
We could visit the Botanic Garden early, and then pop by Ash’Kara for lunch. Ash’Kara is another one of my favorite places for lunch since they really value the quality of the food they offer.
Showing my friends places that only use the best, organic ingredients is definitely a top priority. Which is lucky for me that they’re so easy to find in and around Denver.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that I could shout out, but only one who truly helped me start my music career. He’s my first mentor who taught me how to DJ and gave me my first shot opening for various house music acts in Dallas. I graduated college about seven years ago, and after that, I had no direction at all. I knew that I wanted to DJ and make music, but really had no idea how to start. During my college years I spent every weekend at whatever EDM show was in town at the time, and fell in love with the scene. Immediately after graduating, I moved to Germany to learn the ropes with one of my favorite record labels and try to establish myself in the community. Fast forward three months and I was out of money, without a proper visa, and had to return back to the States. I was back at my mom’s home in Kentucky, and thoroughly depressed that my career hadn’t taken off the way I saw so many of my friends. I spent whatever savings I had left on a small DJ controller, and taught myself the basics of beat matching literally in a barn on my mom’s farm. I was determined to make this happen. One night on Facebook, I saw a status from the owner of a production company that I recognized from many of the events I attended. He was interested in finding a female resident DJ for this new bi-monthly show in Dallas. I hit him up immediately, and he told me that if I could find a way to return to Dallas, that he would teach me how to play on the club standard equipment. So, I quit my serving job, gathered my measly savings, and drove back to Texas. I quickly found another job, but spent every Sunday at his house. Sometimes we traded lessons for my Italian cooking, and sometimes he just gave me the headphones and let me find my way around the mixer. Soon after he put me on my very first show. I continued as resident DJ for almost two years. Without the help of my friend Zander, I would not be where I am today.
