We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Gillette and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting Petals + Bloom Designs was something I have dreamt and talked about for years, and is a story rooted in years of hands on experience. From working in greenhouses to designing, I’ve always been drawn to plants and love adding nature into the spaces we all love and gather in.
The more experience I gained, the more confident I became in my creative vision—and I knew it was time to turn that passion into something of my own.
There’s something so rewarding about transforming a space with color, texture, and life—it never gets old.

I also wanted more freedom in how I worked—freedom to choose projects that inspired me, and build a business that reflected my business and personality.

My husband has always been my biggest supporter. From day one, he’s believed in me and encouraged me to take the leap into entrepreneurship. His support gave me the confidence to build Petals + Bloom Designs and pour my heart into it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Petals + Bloom Designs isn’t just a business—it’s a reflection of a lifelong passion. My husband once laughed and told me I was crazy, because I’d spend all day working with plants at my former job, and then come home and go straight to working in the yard. That’s when I realized: this isn’t just work for me—it’s something I’ll love forever.

I didn’t start this business just because I needed a job. I started it because I wanted a creative outlet, the freedom to design beautiful things, and a way to share joy through nature and color. Creating unique container gardens and plantscapes truly lights me up—and I knew I wanted to bring that joy to others.

Starting a business is never easy. I’ve learned a lot—especially that paperwork and taxes aren’t exactly my favorite part! But the tradeoff is so worth it: I get to set my own schedule, collaborate with amazing clients, and most importantly, work alongside someone I love—my husband and best friend, Reuben.

Petals + Bloom has also given me the flexibility to make time for other things I care about, like volunteering and travel. It’s more than a business. It’s a lifestyle that brings together passion, purpose, and possibility—and I’m so grateful for it every day.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ooh I love this question as I am a Colorado native. Born and raised right here in Fort Collins.
I would definitely recommend breakfast at Lucille’s. Walking around old town checking out the farmers market on Saturday. Grabbing a coffee at Ginger and Baker and a brownie from Explorado.
I love hiking and paddle boarding so I would recommend planning to hike Arthur’s rock or grey rock. If not in the hiking mood a drive up the poudre canyon is absolutely beautiful!
Spend a lazy afternoon paddle boarding horsetooth.
I also love music and would recommend a concert at Washington’s. If willing to drive though Red Rocks is our absolute favorite venue!
Next up spend a day in Estes, drive up to Rocky Mountain national park and hike and pack a lunch. Take in the views and relax. We usually end up finding a small creek and Reuben does a little fly fishing while I sit by the river and read a book.
There is no shortage of food and drink options in Fort Collins. Blue Agave is one of our favorite spots and The Rio for happy hour. Grab take out one night from the Taj Mahal.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
