We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Paison and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsey, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Being a private investigator, I have learned a lot about being humble and remembering gratitude everyday in my work. I interact with missing persons experiencing homelessness, drug addiction and/or mental illness in Denver, and while it can truly be a heartbreaking experience to interact with these individuals and their families, I am continuously reminded to be grateful for what I have, where I come from, and to be thankful for the people I have in my life that support me in all that I do. Equally, I try to extend that into compassion and empathy for all of my clients, even those who don’t come to me for missing persons help. Most people in need of the services come to me during hard or trying times, so I have learned to never judge a book by it’s cover, and do the best that I can to serve those that need my help.
What should our readers know about your business?
Dark Knight Private Investigation is my private investigation practice based in Denver, Colorado. I also serve all of Colorado. Most people think private investigators only do surveillance research and infidelity cases, however, I have tried to branch out and create a business that does a lot more than that. While I do surveillance investigations, I specialize in missing persons cases amongst the homeless community in Denver, and started a pro bono side mission of my business called the Get Home Safely Mission that is responsible for having located over a dozen missing individuals to date. I also specialize in complex process service, which sets me apart from regular process servers who simply knock on people’s doors and hand off paperwork. Doing my job is the easy part, because it is honestly so rewarding and truly makes me the happiest I have ever been. The saying “it’s not work if you love it” has never applied to me before now. The hardest part, has been learning how to manage a business, and staying on top of the administrative tasks like book keeping and filing, but I have slowly developed a system that works for me and everything has fallen into place!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am definitely not the downtown, Highlands area kind of tourist, even in my own city. I live in the DU neighborhood near South Broadway, and I love our little neighborhood spots! The Brutal Poodle is a great place to check out, set in an old dive bar, but the food is great (especially the Cobb Salad!). I love Reivers Restaurant located in East Wash Park, it has a little more upscale vibe and dining room area, but a great bar to sit at as well. Also, if my guest and I were in the mood for a game of pool and cheap drinks, I wouldn’t miss an opportunity to hit The Stadium Inn (or the Shady-um) as the locals call it, on Evans Ave, & Gilpin St.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents truly deserve a lot of credit for my successes! My father is a private practice attorney and my mother is a legal assistant at a law firm in downtown Denver, so I have grown up in the legal field all of my life. Without them, I likely would not have the connections and network of other great attorney’s to work with in Colorado. Additionally, their career paths influenced my interest into the field and I was subsequently able to find my own niche in a career that I love and am passionate about, that I had so much knowledge of already because of them and the people I grew up around. I know both of my parents are genuinely proud of the work I do and support my business 100%!
